The complete guide to farming FREE defense skills at Zychion Citadel! This is the guide that I know a lot of people wanted me to write. After much effort here it is in all its splendor! I have also made a video which has been uploaded to the EarnPED YouTube channel. You can find the video at the end of the guide.
Why Defense Skills Matter
Defense is one of the most important skill sets that you will use in Entropia Universe. Your defense skills decide what you can easily hunt and what can kill you. It can determine whether you get killed in PvP or whether you are the one doing the killing. Defense skills play a bigger roll than most people give them credit for.
Due to the large impact defense skills can have on your game play they should be a player focus. The problem is that most players don’t know how to get defense skills. First let’s take a look at the two distinct types of defense skills we will be dealing with.
Evade and Dodge
The two main defense skills are Evade and Dodge. Evade is the defense skill you will use when dealing with close up attacks. That means its the defense skill you will be using the most.
Dodge on the other hand is the defense skill associated with ranged attacks. Generally that means you will use dodge when dealing with robots and PvP situations. You will use dodge much less often than evade. This is why most people have a much lower dodge level than an evade level.
The good news is that there are some cross over skills that contribute to both your dodge and evade. For the purpose of this guide we are going to be talking about individual skill points. In a later guide we will look at Professions and how various individual skills are used in calculating your profession level. For now you just need to remember that the more defense skills you have the better off you are.
Starting From Nothing
When you first start all of your skills are equal. You don’t have any. This is one of the reasons the game can feel like such a grind for new players. If you are like most people you start off trying to grind out the Iron Puny Mission chain. This is fine but it’s a slow way to gain defense skills.
You will notice that as you are hunting puny creatures the system is awarding you very small amounts of different skills. These are usually a fraction of a point per award. You may get a little skill award for your Rifle Skill. Or maybe one for your Pistol Skill. And every once in a blue moon you will get awarded a fraction of a skill point for evade!
Growing your defense skills this way is painfully slow. The worst part is you are dooming yourself. There’s nothing worse than killing almost 18,000 puny creatures and realizing you still only have the defense skills to hunt puny creatures. Save yourself a lot of time and grind. Go to Zychion Citadel.
What Is Zychion Citadel?
Long before my time in Entropia Zychion Citadel was a thriving colonist metropolis. It was later destroyed during a robot war. Now it’s nothing but a vacant war zone. The buildings are falling apart and the roads have been destroyed. To this day it’s over run with super high level robots. That’s why it was deserted and that’s exactly why we want to go there!
What Mobs Will I Find At Zychion
Zychion Citadel has some of the highest level creatures on Calypso. It’s one of the few places you can find high level mobs in abundance. The creature you’re looking for is called a Mulciber. It’s level 284 and looks like a giant robot spider. It’s the thing nightmares are made of.
You’ll also find level 85 Warriors, level 185 Eviscerators and level 160 Warlocks. Mulcibers are the ones you want to focus on but this works with all of the mobs you will run into at Zychion Citadel.
How To Farm Free Defense Skills At Zychion Citadel
Once you’ve arrived at the Zychion Citadel teleporter go right down the old broke road. You will find a platform with various terminals at the base of the broken road.
From here you will be able to easily find all kinds of high level mobs. You should be able to spot several Mulcibers pretty easily. Now all you have to do is run toward the Mulciber. Once you get fairly close it should start watching you and following your movements. Pretty soon it will attack and you will die with the first hit.
Watch your main system screen and bingo! You should have been awarded a TON of defense skills. When you first start it’s not unusual for the system to award you 3-5 evade points. You could also get Athletics, Combat Reflexes, Courage or Alertness! The great things is that all of these are defense skills. All of these skills are used to calculate your overall Evader and Dodger profession level. Even better? Several of these skills help you gain additional HP which makes you even stronger while having better defense!
The key to this system is to be sure you don’t die too quickly back to back. When you die there is a 10 second wait time before you can revive. If you make sure to wait 20-30 seconds between deaths this time will remain 10 seconds. Dying back to back too quickly will make the revive timer increase to 20 seconds, then 40 seconds and finally 80 seconds.
If you accidentally die too quickly back to back simply wait twice as long as normal and then die. Your revive timer should now be back at 10 seconds.
Why Does This Work?
These are not mobs that were made to be hunted by low level players. The game sees that there is a huge discrepancy between your low level and the mobs super high level. The game also see the amount of damage you’re taking. A Mulciber can easily do 380 hp of damage with a single blow. This is more than most players total HP.
When the system awards you skill points it takes these and other factors into consideration. This is why this method becomes less useful the further you go. The higher your defense skills get the smaller skill point awards you will receive. You will also receive skill points less often. My Evader profession level is 19.8 with my Dodger close behind. I’m averaging 1/2-1 skill point per 3-5 deaths. It’s still helping me become stronger. Just a slower process than it was when I first started.
All you have to do is repeat until Uber! Sure it can get a little boring. But it’s a great way to farm free defense skills when you can’t be actively hunting, mining or crafting. It’s a great way to pass time if you’re talking to several players at once. It can also be a great way to learn the game.
