Armor is imperative to your survival in Entropia Universe. There have been a lot of changes and there is a lot of research ongoing. Today we are just going to look at the basics of using. Once we have a solid foundation to build we can look at specific sets. We will also look at things such as research, plates, decay and more in future articles. For now let’s get started learning the basics!
What Is Armor?
Armor is anything that protects you from attacking mobs or players when in PvP areas. Most of the time you will have a set of armor. It will look like something you would expect to protect you. This is different from other clothes. Clothes are fashionable and can help you express yourself but provide no protection.
What Types Of Armor Are There?
As with most things in Entropia Armor comes in two flavors: Limited and Unlimited. Limited eventually wears out and has to be thrown away. Unlimited can be repaired and used over and over again. In this sense it’s similar to other L or UL items in game.
There is however one very large difference. UL armor will slowly provide less protection as it decays. Once repaired it goes back to it’s full protective capabilities and the process starts over. With Limited armor the protection is the same from the time you get it until the time you have to throw it away. The TT value decays until it can no longer be used but the protective capacity never lessens. This can be very important when deciding which is right for your situation.
In addition to the standard protective suite you’re picturing there are also Armor Plates which can equipped to add more protection. This is again beyond the scope of this article but keep in mind that they do exist and can be helpful when you need even more protection. We will talk about plates more in the coming week. For now let’s look at what makes a complete armor suite.
The Pieces Of A Set
While there are exceptions most armor sets contain 7 pieces. This means that your typical set will contain a helmet, harness, arm guards, gloves, thigh guards, shin guards and foot guards. This is very self explanatory as each piece protects a different part of your body.
You do not have to have a complete matching set. You can take the foot guards from one set, the harness from another. It would look a little weird and would be an expensive way to protect yourself but it could be done.
Armor comes in Male and Female versions. If you have a Male avatar you must use Male. Females must use female. A long time ago male armor was more expensive so many players started over with female avatars. This cost gap has started to close in recent years so you don’t have to worry about starting over with a new avatar.
Armor Can Be A Horrible Waste Of PED
I see people waste more PED on armor than I can count. Sometimes all I can do is shake my head. If you’re out hunting then you may need the added protection. But this isn’t always how it’s used. Especially by newer players.
If you are Sweating you definitely do not want to be wearing armor. The same is true if you are Farming Defense Skills At Zychion Citadel. You only want to wear armor when you actively need the protection it provides. That does not mean you need it the first few week you hunt Punys. Every time you take damage from a mob or a player in PvP your armor will decay. This means that each hit is costing you money. Even if it’s a small amount every PEC counts.
All Is Not Equal
Each set protects from different types of attacks. Each part of a set will have the same attack protections but those protections will vary from set to set. In future articles we will look at various sets and see which protections they offer. We will also look at which armor is ideal to use against a particular mob.
This is why armor plates are important. You may have armor that protects against Impact attacks only. If you’re hunting a mob that does both Impact and Cut attacks you may need to add Cut plates. We will go into more depth on this issue as we look at the various sets that are available.
We will also explain how new players can get a FREE set or armor early on that provides decent protection. For now you should have a basic understanding of what Armor is in Entropia Universe that we can build on later.
