Entropia Universe: How I Took 8th In Easter Mayhem Defense 2021

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:52 pm

I get a lot of questions about the quarterly Mayhem events in Entropia Universe. As most of you know I generally don’t suggest new players competing. Today I want to share how I took 8th in the recent Defense competition. I also want to give you some more information about why Mayhem is generally a bad idea.

Why I Discourage Competing In Mayhem

Generally I tell people to have fun but not to bother competing in the quarterly Mayhem events. There are a few simple reasons for this:

  • Lack of available prizes
  • Cheating
  • Lack of proper weapons
  • Interference with game play

Lack Of Available Prizes

When Mayhem first started there were prizes per competition. Then MindArk moved all prizes to the Mayhem Token Trader. There were some GREAT prizes. Ultra high efficiency items. The kind of items that most players dream of owning.

The majority of those prizes have long been claimed. Of the prizes left to be claimed they are trash compared to the stuff that people already got. To make matters worse you may need 2x Placement Tokens but you may need 100,000 Mayhem Tokens!

I have almost a dozen Placement Tokens but I still need to almost double my regular token count in order to get one of the sub par prizes.

Cheating

I knew early on that people were cheating at Mayhem. The scores would come out and I would almost always get 2nd or 3rd place and the person who beat me was a no name avatar that no one had ever heard of. And they didn’t beat me by a little; they beat me badly. And I was beating everyone else badly.

As most of you know it came out a while back that people were using a pet to increase their reload speed far past anything that should have been possible. It’s also no secret that many of these “winners” were alt accounts designed for no reason but to keep Mayhem tokens out of the hands of other players.

In my opinion this is completely unacceptable. Those players were allowed to cheat the system to get the best gear available. Much more should have been done to stop it or rectify the situation.

Lack Of Proper Weapons

There is a lack of weapons that are proper for use in Mayhem. You need a weapon at the DPS limit for your category that’s also tier 9/10. Usually these weapons are UL and extremely expensive. Some categories just don’t have an ideal weapon at all. This puts the majority of players at a massive disadvantage from the start.

I’ve actually started using high tier L weapons for my Mayhem runs. Yes this has resulted in me getting 22nd place for Annihilation the past few Mayhems. But it has also kept my cost extremely low and a higher DPS UL weapon would have barely got me into the top 10 without a high score kill (which I didn’t get anyway).

Interference With Other Game Play

My biggest problem with Mayhem is the skill caps have always limited my game play. This has always been very annoying. Constantly chipping out is very problematic. Now ESI prices are going through the roof. Chipping out simply no longer makes sense.

I finally threw my hands up and stopped worrying about profession levels. There were months I didn’t even play just because Mayhem was coming up. Now I play how I want when I want. If Mayhem rolls around and I’m in cat 3 cool. Maybe I end up in cat 6. I won’t spend months doing nothing just because of Mayhem anymore.

Easter Mayhem Defense

Every Mayhem there is a secondary event. Some of these events are easier than others. Each secondary event takes actual skill at the game. My favorite is the Easter Mayhem Defense competition.

The idea is simple: center of the arena there is a robot interceptor. Protect it from ever waves of creatures. Each wave is stronger than the one before it.

This is one of my favorite events because after every 5th and 10th round you’re rewarded with a Mayhem token or a token and a strongbox. That makes it easy for low level players to farm a few tokens with very little cost.

The Easy Strategy

Winning the Defense event is kind of straight forward. You know that the mobs will get stronger with each wave. So simply be able to do more damage the longer you’re in there.

I usually start with a weapon below the DPS limit. The first few rounds I can stand my ground pretty easy. As the mobs get stronger and harder to kill I move to a higher DPS weapon with damage enhancers. Toward the end of my run when the mobs are REALLY strong I move to a weapon with DPS near the catagory limit running full damage enhancers.

Even a category DPS limit weapon with 10 damage enhancers isn’t enough. No matter how many buffs you have or how fast you shoot you just won’t be able to hurt them anymore. At this point I don’t even try to take them down; I just make them chase me.

Remember the goal is to keep the interceptor safe. I have to avoid dying but if they are chasing me they are not destroying the interceptor! This works for a while but eventually you will die and then it’s over.

How People Score 2 Hour Times

I have no idea. I was lucky to be able to last about 1 hour 9 minutes. Some players can score a 2 hour + time which is absolute insanity to me. How they manage to pull it off I’ve never figured out. But if you can do it more power to you!

Final Thoughts

If you’re just getting started then Mayhem really isn’t something you want to take too seriously. Have some fun with it and check out the secondary events. Next Easter remember that the defense event gives you the opportunity to farm boxes and tokens fairly cheaply and efficiently.

Thanks for all the support you guys have given us. We appreciate it and we will have more Youtube videos coming very soon! Summer Migration si right around the corner so check back often!

Corey Chappell The Person Behind The Avatar

Corey Chappell Oklahoma City

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:52 pm

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post. We’ve had a lot going on inside Entropia Universe and I’ve had a lot going on in real life. One of my goals is to keep you guy’s up to date and well informed. I’ll be adding a lot more blog content starting today. To kick things off I want to give my fellow Entropian’s a little more information about myself.

A Little About Me

Most of you know me as StevieB. My real name is Corey Chappell. This is not something I’ve ever tried to hide and is fairly well known in game. I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where I have spent the vast majority of my life.

As a kid I used to play a LOT of video games. I can still remember the Christmas my parents got me the Nintendo NES game system. Like most of you I spent countless hours playing Duck Hunt or Mario Brothers.

A few years later I upgraded to the Super Nintendo. Donkey Kong Country was my go to game. Remember the magazines that you could buy at Toys R Us for $9.99 that showed all the hidden objects and secret paths? I saved all summer for that magazine and probably logged over 300 hours of gameplay.

Why I Quit Gaming

I loved gaming. Many weekends I would game until the sun came up with my cousins or my friends. But as I got older gaming naturally took a backseat to the real world.

School was always important to me but I was also driven to start a career at a very young age. Some of you already know that by 18 I was one of the youngest professional Numismatists in the nation. For those of you who don’t know what that means; I was a coin dealer.

My specialty was Morgan Silver Dollars and small cents but I dealt in anything post civil war. My grading skills were good enough I once considered taking a position working for PCGS. I’ve consulted with banks, financial institutions, lawyers, CPA’s and individuals because I’m one of the few experts on authentication in the area.

I once had to leave school to go to a bank and look at some currency notes they had taken in. They thought they were likely counterfeit but they wanted my opinion before calling in the Secret Service. It’s a good thing they called me because the notes were indeed genuine. They had received a collection of error and misprint notes. A collection that turned out to be very valuable.

Professional Career

I knew early on that I enjoyed coin collecting as a hobby but I wanted more from a career. My family has been in the real estate business for four generations. Early in my career I worked as an Acquisitions Manager for 18002SellHomes and HouseKings.

Most of my career has been focused around my families operations. Some of you know that I’m a Closing Options Analyst for 181-Close-Now here in Oklahoma City. It was actually my career in real estate that led me back to a life of gaming.

A Hobby That Pays

Growing up I always had a profitable hobby. Hot Wheels collecting was very popular in 1998 and 1999. Pokemon was popular and profitable around the same time. And I eventually moved into Coins and Currency. But after 2006 I really didn’t have a hobby. There was nothing that was “in” at the time.

I had heard about Entropia Universe and tried to get into it back in 2009. Back then I couldn’t even get the game to download. I tried again in 2015 and couldn’t even make it to Camp Icarus as I’d never played a PC game.

Finally in May 2018 I REALLY needed a hobby. My career was taking a lot out of me and I had no way to just escape. But I also needed a hobby that could pay me. I knew nothing would make enough to totally compensate me for my time but Entropia Universe seemed like the best option.

How StevieB Was Born

I had been using the name Steve Braggs online for several years. When I created my EU account I decided I would make StevieB real. He was never just an avatar. StevieB is a part of me. The best parts of me. I’ve always been the type of person who liked to share information with people, be knowledgeable in what I do and help other people succeed. To me that’s what StevieB will always represent.

StevieB was born on Memorial Day 2018. I was at the lake with my family and used my time away from work to start learning all I could about Entropia Universe. That very first day I walked, swam and fought my way to Zychion Citadel To Farm Free Defense Skills. It was the beginning of a 6 month grind.

Search Engine Optimization

I first started learning SEO back in 2012. Partly as an intellectual challenge and partly because I wanted something new to master. It’s been a lot of fun but I’ve also been able to use that skill to help gamers. I never would have imagined that one day I’d have a Youtube Channel with supportive followers.

Every few weeks I get an e-mail from someone who never heard of Entropia Universe until they saw my videos. It’s hard to describe the feeling of knowing you introduced someone to a game they love. But I really need to thank you; my fellow players.

Without you earnped.com wouldn’t exist. My Youtube channel would just be a bunch of videos lost in the void. And my time in game would not be nearly as much fun. Some of the people I consider my closest friends I’ve never met outside of Planet Calypso.

Thank You For Your Support

Like most MMORPG’s Entropia Universe usually keeps people hidden behind an avatar. A large part of my success in this game is due to the support I’ve received from my fellow players. I wanted you to get to know a little more about me as it’s something we so rarely get to do in game.

I am always around. When I’m in game I usually play incognito mode so I don’t show as online. If you need to make a withdrawal please PM me in game first. Should I not get back to you please email me at sbraggs62@gmail.com be sure and mark the subject line as “withdrawal” and include the amount you wish to withdrawal, the time zone you are in and what planet you can usually be found on.

Keep in mind there is a 60 day blackout period on all earnings. This is the sponsors doing; not mine. I am happy to check your balance if you aren’t sure how much you have available. Most of all I want to say thank you. It’s your support that makes this all possible. I will be uploading new videos and blog content soon.

Until then Sip, sip, smack, smack!

Fatty’s Guide To Pets In Entropia Universe

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:52 pm

We would like to take a moment to thank Fatteus Fatty Thorsson for this article. He has worked on this project for a very long time. It is because of his research and experience we are able to bring you this article. After much waiting and anticipation we present to you his masterpiece. Fatty’s Guide To Pets In Entropia Universe!

Your Pet And You

A lot of people ask me, “Fatty, what do I do with my pet _?” Pets are wonderful, enigmatic little pieces of game mechanics. To put it simply, a pet can be your best friend, both figuratively and literally!

Having a happy pet (one that is fed and is in a good mood) gives a player avatar boosts to health and experience. Furthermore, pets have Passive Effects that can be unlocked at a high level that give you an additional boost! These vary by pet, the most common one being Skill Boost to Taming and Training Pets. Let’s start at the beginning.

A Hungry Pet Is A Useless Pet

The first thing you need (other than your pet) is a few hundred Nutrio Bars. This sounds daunting, but if you have the right connections, you can get the two components of the Nutrio Bar rather easily. First, either search yourself or pay someone to search for fruit.

Fruit comes in a variety of flavors, but they all essentially work the same. 1 Fruit is needed per Nutrio Bar. The second ingredient is a lot more
elusive; that is the aptly named Sweet Stuff. This sweet, saccharine substance is mined. Yes, mined. With probes… The locations to mine it span across the galaxy, but usually there are only a few places it can be found in each world. The “Sweet Spots” are a closely guarded secret that not even we are privy to.

Thankfully, someone has gone and done the hard part of mining everywhere for you. Use mininglog.com maps to find where it is most common. While the maps arte helpful we do NOT recommend running the outdated software. Once you have Fruit and Sweet Stuff, use a Refiner (Tool) to turn 1 Fruit and 1 Sweet Stuff into 1 Bar. 1000 Fruit and 1000 Sweet Stuff will make 1000 Nutrio bars. That may feed up to two pets. Maybe three, if their metabolism stat is low.

That sounds like a good transition to the next thing you will need to know. If you want to just buy what you need or out-right by the Nutrio bars from someone who has already done the legwork, consider Hunting for Hire, or Mining Resources, both of which require an initial investment, but can make you a good chunk of PED. Who knows? Maybe when you’re out mining, you’ll find the Sweet Stuff.

Pet Stats For Non-Pet Experts

Pet stats are all important, and every kind of pet is different, though there may be a lot of similarities between pets from different worlds. To see the stats, right click the pet window or the pet in your inventory and select Show Pet Status.

The first stat we’ll look at is Pet Level. The Level of the pet determines what tricks it can perform and if it can use it’s Passive Ability. To raise the level, you must first feed your pet. This fills the Energy Stat. Energy under a certain % means the pet is hungry and will start losing its Mood Stat. When the Mood stat drops below 20%, a pet will not do tricks. Mood goes back up when a pet has Energy at 30% or above. This varies by pet, so find your pet’s hunger % by using up energy. How do you do that?

Tricks, Tricks, Tricks

Once the pet is fed, get it to do tricks by right clicking the pet interface window and selecting Tricks, then selecting the desired trick. The further down the list a trick is, generally the more Focus and Energy it will likely use, but it will also reward a proportionate amount of Experience for the pet. Focus is a stat that becomes less effective the closer it gets to 0%.

Generally speaking, you won’t want to use any tricks if the focus has dips below 80 or 90%, because it will be less effective and use more Energy. Focus does go up over time and caps at 100%. When a pet uses a trick, it gains Experience at an accelerated rate. It also gains Experience over time just for being out. A pet neither loses nor gains stats when it is in your inventory. The next stat we’ll cover is Metabolic Rate.

Metabolic Rate

The Higher this number is, the more Nutrio Bars the pet will consume both over time and all at once to get full Energy (around 99%). A metabolic rate of 11, for example, means it eats 11 Nutrio Bars per hour, if it sits idle and does no tricks (that’s the best I got about that; if this is inaccurate, please email fatteusprophet@gmail.com and enlighten me). Doing tricks uses more energy, depending on the trick. But there’s the rub. To speed up Experience gain, you have to do tricks. To do tricks, you need to feed your pet! We talked about Experience, Mood, and Energy. The next thing is Affection.

Affection Goes Both Ways

This is how much your pet cares for you. A pet with low Affection will be ineffective and give no buffs. This stat goes back down if the pet is traded to a new owner. Furthermore, Affection has to be at 100% for you to name your pet with a Pet Name Tag. This makes pets customizable to a point. The Status stat shows how well fed your pet is. That’s all there is to that stat, but keep an eye on it. Next is what level your pet will be Exportable. This means, whatever world your pet belongs to, they cannot be summoned on any other world until they reach the indicated level.

Difficulty By Rarity

The Training Stat indicates the difficulty of the pet. For example, a Corinthian Kanin (bunny) is ‘Easy’, which means it’s experience goes up much faster than Average or more difficult Training Stats. A Dog is Average, so it will take longer to train to a higher level than a common bunny. Advanced is even more challenging. Then, of course, we got to talk about the Rarity Stat.

This stat indicates how common a pet is. There are different flavors of the same type of pet, and each flavor is different in rarity and also stat-wise. Some will come in different colors or patterns and have even stronger Passive Effects. Examples would be the Ruby Kanin (pink bunny) or the Sapphire
Chirin Dragon. The final stat is Date Acquired. This is simply what date the animal was tamed. Whether you tame it yourself, or the person you got it from tamed it for you. We’ll talk about Pet Taming in a separate article.

Pet Passive Abilities

I mentioned Passive Effects at least a few times, and I hope you all were patient with me. What a Passive Effect is can be boiled down to an extra ability that you must activate using Essence and PED. You must also start doing the thing which the effect augments while that pet is out for the Criteria Stat to reach 100% before you can activate the ability. For the Corinthian Kanin, you just need to run around.

For pets like the Dog or Atrox Pup, you need to tame animals. Once activated, they can be used whenever the pet is summoned, but using them with a Passive Effect active will require extra Energy Consumption (indicated by the Energy Stat), so watch their energy. Remember; a good rule of thumb is
to keep it above 30%. Some of the effects are well worth their weight in PED.

Pets Special Passive Effects

Take the Yog Hatchling, for example. It’s Passive Effect is Excavator Mastery, which allows miners to collect their loot from their resource deeds much faster (10% faster to be precise). To get Essence, it must be gathered by sending expendable pets to the “Bunny Blender” (although it is called the Bunny Blender, I prefer to save my bunnies and blend bristlehogs instead). This is located at any stable. It is said that different stables are different, though this hasn’t been confirmed by me. I believe the owner of the Stable chooses the buff they would like to offer, so they could differ based on that. The locations of stables are far and wide, but the most convenient one I know of is at Twin Peaks, down a path behind the Service Center (the crafting
building).

Animal Essence AKA The Bunny Blender

Once there, interact with the control console and switch tabs to the Extract tab. Plunk one of your useless pets in there then hit “Apply” and make sure to make the whirring sound of a blender. No matter how valuable the pet you just ground up into essence was, you will get between 1 and 3 PEC
worth of Essence. Please be courteous and only blend bristlehogs and bunnies and similarly common animals. No one is going to reimburse you if you blend up a high level and/or rare pet, and Mind Ark certainly won’t help you.

I think I once accidentally blended a Combibo pet that was level 7. Still kicking myself for that. Sometimes you get Rare essence. This doesn’t seem to TT (A.k.a sell to Trade Terminal) for any more than regular Essence, but it is needed to activate some pet’s abilities. Passive Effects, once active, can be deactivated and reactivated for apparently no cost. Nice, yeah? It is recommended that you deactivate an effect if you want a pet to be out and you are not using it for its ability at the time. This will save you a lot of PED.

The Entropian Society For The Protection Against Cruelty To Tamed Animals

Yes, the E.S.P.C.A is a thing. Loosely based on a RL organization of a similar name, the E.S.P.C.A specializes in caring for pets and loaning high level pets out to players for a safety deposit, which they get back after they return the pet.

We advocate against blending pets that are not common or easy to tame. We’d prefer not having to blend pets at all, but sadly, that’s not the world we live in. Generally, we are like a non-kill shelter. We pay for the Nutrio Bars to train our pets and we can even train your pets if you don’t want to bother with it (for a small negotiable fee, of course). We accept donations of Nutrio Bars, Fruit, Sweetstuff, Animals, and PED, as well as PEC. Anything, really. If it can be used to help the pets, we are very interested in it.

NOTE: We are still working on our stock, as well as training and leveling them. Currently (As of June 13th, 2020) no pets are available to loan, but a couple are close; like our Yog Hatchling named Mephisto.

Melee In Entropia Universe Is Cheaper Than You Think

Melee Weapons In Entropia Universe

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:53 pm

Why does melee seem so expensive in Entropia Universe? We all had that moment when we first started playing. You run out of ammo. Then your gun breaks. You decide that using ranged weapons is expensive. The logical thing seems to be to use melee weapons. But you soon realize that they decay so fast melee is even more expensive! Such is the first few days playing EU. But why does melee seem so expensive? And is it as expensive as it seems?

The truth is melee is actually CHEAPER than using ranged weapons. But you have to do things right. You also have to spend some time and PED to get there. Let’s take a look at why melee seems so expensive. Then we can look at ways to make melee work for us.

Melee Decay; The Game Killer

The largest reason melee seems so expensive is the decay on your weapons. When you first start you need melee weapons from the trade terminal. You have the choice of a knife, sword or a set of brass-knuckles. The weapons function much like you would expect. Equip the weapon, hit the target, end of story. And the best part (new players think) is no ammo burn! We quickly realize that no ammo burn is actually a bad thing.

Melee weapons that don’t burn ammo decay FAST. The increased decay rate is because of the fact that they don’t use ammo. When you use a ranged weapon you incur the expense of both ammo AND decay. Melee weapons without an associated ammo cost have increased decay. This is why we usually view them as “more expensive”. We get less use out of them. They need to be replaced or repaired more often. Psychologically it LOOKS like we’re spending more money.

Melee Weapons In Entropia Universe
Melee Weapons In Entropia Universe

Ying & Yang

The truth is there is likely not much difference in expense. A while back MindArk added an ammo cost to a lot of melee weapons. Once you get past the trade terminal you have more choices. The first weapon you will move onto is likely the ArMatrix LB-10 (L) or SB-10 (L). Both of these weapons require ammo burn every time you use the weapon. The LB-10 998 and 491 ammo for the SB-10.

ArMatrix LB-10(L)
ArMatrix LB-10(L)

It seems stupid for a melee weapon to have ammo burn. Your sword doesn’t start shooting bullets after all. But the reason for the ammo burn makes sense. Once ammo burn was put into melee weapons the weapon decay decreased. The result was decay that is more on par with what we are used to. The cost is the same because there is ammo burn. It just feel like a lot less because the weapon lasts longer.

When we think about this in reverse we see it’s all in our head. The higher decay from melee weapons that don’t use ammo is almost the same as a weapon that does use ammo + decay. We get used to how long ranged weapons last. Then we expect this from melee weapons. When they don’t last as long we associate it with higher cost.

Horrible Loot Returns

Another reason we associate melee weapons with higher expense is loot returns. We go out and burn a few swords. It seems like out loot just SUCKS. But again we have to realize the problem is with our logic. It’s just another psychological trap we fall into. When we use ranged weapons we are used to slaughtering mobs. Sometimes we tag with a rifle and finish with a pistol. Other times we run into a group of mobs and blast them.

With melee weapons we have to be close to attack. This means less time dealing damage and more time running. It may also take you significantly longer to kill each mob. When we mix this with the (perceived) added cost of melee we have shorter hunts. We get bored, we switch to ranged weapons or we log off.

It’s well known that you want a hunt of 500-100 mobs bare minimum. This gives you the best chance at a glocal / HOF. It may not get you to TT+ returns but it takes out some of the variance. The reason you have horrible melee returns is the length of hunt. You’re simply not killing enough mobs. Don’t believe me? Count them.

Efficiency Is Still King

The exception to this is if you have crap efficiency. With loot 2.0 efficiency is king. There are plenty of melee weapons that have HORRIBLE efficiency. If you decide these are the weapons for you I can’t help you. I have the old school UL TT set. But I don’t use it (often anyway) because of the horrible efficiency.

Since TT weapons have no MU there’s no reason to use lower efficiency weapons. As with ranged weapons be sure and add an appropriate amp. It will increase your decay cost (cost of amp). But it will also increase your DPS and efficiency. The higher the efficiency the better. If you have the right weapon and the right amp your efficiency should be decent. With appropriate hunt lengths and the correct mobs your returns should be fine.

Extenders And Melee Cost

Another reason melee can seem incredibly expensive is extenders. We are used to putting extenders onto our ranged weapons. After all, if we can make the weapon last longer we save paying MU. But remember that extenders absorb the weapons decay. Again with ranged weapons we have an ammo cost and a decay cost. The extender is absorbing part of that decay only.

If we use an extender on a melee weapon that has ammo burn we get about the same result. But if we use an extender on a melee weapon without ammo burn we have an issue. The only cost of using the weapon is decay. Adding an extender will help the weapon last longer. But it seems the extender burns faster. This is again due to the fact that we ONLY have decay cost.

Doing Melee Right

If this is your first day playing Entropia Universe stay away from melee. Learn the game, make some friends and earn some PED. Once you have a love for the game doing melee right can be fun. And profitable. If you have been playing with ranged weapons you have plenty of Anatomy skills. Anatomy makes up approximately 20% of the DAMAGE professions for melee. That means that you will be able to do close to the full damage intervals. However your hit skills will likely lag behind. This is because the Shortblades, Longblades etc. skills contribute the most to your HIT abilities.

STEP 1: TT Hell

You’re going back to your first day in EU. Go to the trade terminal and stock up on knives, swords and brass knuckles. Burn through them on your favorite lower level mobs until your HIT abilities grow. Once you have 10.0/10.0 Hit and Critical Hit abilities on the weapon you want to move onto; move on.

Step 2: Melee With Ammo Burn

Now that your DAMAGE and HIT professions are both on par we can get a new weapon. Most of us will use the ArMatrix SB-10 (L) or the ArMatrix LB-10 (L). Both of these weapons have ammo burn. This means the decay will be closer to what we are used to. From here on out the journey is similar to ranged weapons. Climb the ladder, move on to a new weapon when appropriate. Extenders are your friend.

Step 3: Look For The Cracks

Melee can actually be CHEAPER than ranged weapons. Why? They just aren’t as popular. This means they are harder to sell. You can often find Limited Melee weapons on auction at lower mark ups than their ranged counterparts. Paired with extenders this can be one of the cheapest ways to hunt in EU.

But there are other cracks you will have to find. I have already mentioned they MAY be easy to tier. Below is a video covering a lot of this information. In the video I say there may be good times to use economy enhancers. But did you know there are other ways to make using melee weapons even cheaper?

I still play Entropia Universe everyday. And I still make a profit playing. So obviously I can’t give away ALL of my secrets (though I tend to) but let’s suffice to say there are way’s to Make melee even cheaper (re-read that last sentence a few times). This means that for an experienced player melee can be a HUGE advantage.

Other Benefits To Melee

Melee has two distinct benefits. The first is that it is one of the only ways to easily increase Strength. Strength is an attribute; not a skill. The more you grow your Strength the more you can carry. This comes in handy once you start mining but can also help when hunting. Fewer trips to storage just makes the game more fun.

More importantly melee contributes to HP growth. There are 15 skills related to the melee HIT professions. Thirteen of those skills contribute to HP! As you grow your melee abilities your HP will also grow. And since you are doing close combat you will get hit by mobs more often. This means that you will gain my favorite skills; DEFENSE! (increased armor decay and more faping are also reasons melee seems more expensive)

Don’t take my word for it. Look to arguably the player with more experience than anyone: Messi. A few weeks ago I saw a recent pic of his skills. He had just crossed 500 HP. His Knife Fighter profession was over level 200! A few days later I got lucky and caught him hanging out in rookie chat. He happened to mention that he is currently using the Unique Sacrificial Dagger almost exclusively. Considering it has a mind blowing 94% efficiency I think it would be my go-to weapon also.

Melee For The Rest Of Us

In closing let me reiterate I think new players should stay away from melee. But if you’ve played for a while maybe it’s time to look at giving melee a shot. If you can get past those TT weapons needed to get your HIT abilities up you’re golden. We now have melee weapons with ammo cost bringing decay in line with what we expect. Chose the right weapon, amp, mob and hunt length for amazing results. You may even end up saving some PED! Even if there was a few PEC difference it’s worth it for the HP and Strength.

I’ve included a video below covering much of this material. As always feel free to reach out to me in game. If I’m not competing in Mayhem I’m always happy to chat. Next Island Planet Partners Defraud Entropia Players

Next Islands L.A.R.A. Pet

Sometimes our faith in the people we trust most gets shaken. That’s exactly what happened the past week as the Next Island Planet Partners defrauded players of the online MMORPG Entropia Universe. It was an intentional and deliberate act that needs to be remembered. Let’s take a look at exactly how this unfolded and the warning it serves as we head toward events like Halloween Mayhem.

Next Island L.A.R.A. Event

Shortly before September 24, 2019 it was announced that something amazing was happening. Next Island, the more or less dead planet in Entropia Universe, would be having a week-long event. The event was scheduled to run from Tuesday September 24, 2019 until Tuesday October 1, 2019. ANY news was coming out of Next Island was a big surprise. The development company behind the virtual planet has long been struggling with ownership. Staffing which has stalled development to a standstill. For a long time it has been a huge failure in the EU system.

The big draw to this event was a cute little robot named L.A.R.A. which could be tamed as a pet. When it was announced that this pet had an Auto loot buff players flocked to Next Island in HUGE numbers to start taming. I was one of them. And regrettably I even got a hold of several friends and encouraged them to come as well. Come they did.

Paradise Landing: The Event In Action

The event was held at Paradise Landing. This is the new arrival area on Next Island. There were 5 pens set up which would be filled with low level L.A.R.A. bots. You could kill them and receive loot and occasionally special tameable L.A.R.A.’s would appear.

At first 4 to 5 tameable’s would appear near the spawning pens. After about 48 hours this was changed. This meant that 4 pens had regular versions of the bot which could be hunted. The 5th pen was used only to spawn the tameable version. They would spawn back-to-back as long as one was drawn out of the pen. When 5 had been spawned they would stop spawning until those 5 had been tamed. Then this process would repeat.

The area was quickly filled with players who wanted a chance at the new pet. Those who could not previously afford an auto loot pet saw this as their chance to get something only large deposit players tend to have. The situation quickly grew out of control with people trying to steal everyone else’s spawns. As on player wrote “For a few glorious days Paradise Landing looked like Twin Peaks; it was beautiful”.

Next Island Developers Fail To Control Event

Did the Next Island Planet Partners step up and take care of the situation? No. I did. That’s right; the one and only StevieB got everyone acting right. I made it very simple for people. Form an orderly line, tame one and go to the back of the line. Otherwise I would stand there 24/7 until the event ended killing every tameable L.A.R.A. that spawned. And it worked!

Everyone was waiting in line. People were being polite! Everyone was helping each other. The local chat was filled with people talking about all sorts of things game related. For a moment you forgot you were on a planet that has long been the deserted outpost of Entropia. And the economy quickly reacted.

Nutrio Bars were needed to feed the newly tamed pets but were in short supply. Mark up quickly went to over 200% with some sellers asking as much as 300%. People were warping to Calypso and buying up nutria bars to warp back and sell. Whips quickly became a hot commodity with far too few to meet the ever growing demand.

Worst of all people started exploring Next Island. Since you had to level the pet to level 7 before it was off-world spawn-able. People, including myself, started gathering teleporters. We went hunting and did some mining. Collected missions and started working on them. We started spending PED that was going into the pockets of the Next Island Planet Partners.

The Fraud That Undid It All

On Tuesday October 1, 2019 Next Island Planet Partners did something I would have never imagined MindArk would allow. They blatantly defrauded everyone who attended the event. On the very last day of the event, close to the very end, Next Island announced that it would be removing the auto loot feature from L.A.R.A. pets. Their reason? They claim that it was a programming error.

In all my studies of legal cases, both in the United States and abroad, I have NEVER seen such a blatant fraud committed on such a large group of people in such an open manner. The ONLY reason anyone went across the universe to Next Island for the event was because the pet had an auto loot buff. This was obvious from the moment the event was announced.

The only reason money was spent on whips and nutrio bars was the auto loot buff. Why did we spend several days taming them, leveling them and exploring while they leveled? The auto loot buff! It was literally the only reason the event was successful! And the only reason the vast majority of people came at all! But now, after the money has been made, it was an accident?

StevieB’s De-buffed L.A.R.A. Pet From The Next Island Event

A Lie Is A Lie

To call the auto loot buff a programming error that was unintended is a lie so stupid only the person telling it would believe it. In order for that to happen someone on the Next Island Development Team would have had to gotten out of bed and slept walked to their computer. While sleeping they would have had to log in and program something similar to: “If Pet Level 15, If auto loot buff unlocked, if >50% happy, if >80% fed; then activate buff Auto loot creatures, Radius 5 meters; otherwise return: null”.

This would be like me telling you I accidentally built a fully functioning car by accident. IN MY SLEEP. I am MORE than understanding of programming accidents. A mission that is bugged and doesn’t work right is an accident. Having a taming event but the robots aren’t tame-able is an accident. But to tell me that an incredibly complicated code that would be needed for something like an unlock-able auto loot buff is an unintended programming error is insulting. They really believe we are all absolute idiots.

If this was an accident why was the event allowed to run? Why wasn’t the plug pulled the first day? If they really didn’t know why the crowds of people were showing up they are negligent at BEST. Incompetent would be the absolute best case scenario. The newest players to the game knew about the auto loot buff. How did the team that manages the planet not notice for a full week? Did someone forget to mention they added the feature? Why was it being openly advertised? These are the questions they can’t answer.

MindArk’s Response To Next Island

I filed a support case with MindArk. The response I got is shown below. Yup I’m an idiot who believes you can program something like auto loot by accident.

MindArk Responds To Next Islands Fraud
MindArk Responds To Next Islands Fraud

This creates a HUGE problem not just for Next Island but for MindArk. How are we supposed to have faith in ANY future events? The only solution I can seem to find is that before you participate in an event open a support case. Have MindArk support verify ALL of the posted details are correct. Ask them before participating if there are any obvious issues that will need to be addressed.

This pet having auto loot should have been addressed the first day of the event. Not the last. I think we could have all been understanding if they had told us up front it wasn’t supposed to have auto loot. Then we could have decided whether or not to go. More importantly we could have determined how much money, if any, to spend.

A Frightening Precedent

I feel very bad for small players who spend a lot of their bankroll on these pets. People bought them. They paid high mark up for nutrio bars. They paid people to level them. People spent money on VIP warps. Most of all there was a week of time that could have been used skilling. A week that was lost. I know some small players who put their entire bankroll into these pets. We need to be sure this doesn’t EVER happen again.

Can you imagine if the FEN event, where Platinum FEN Tokens spiked to over 75 PED each, had been like this? What if those uber valuable, high efficiency weapons had been a “programming accident”? Would they have been de-buffed the moment they sold out? Not only does this current situation need to be resolved; this needs to never happen again. If it happens now what’s to stop it from becoming an everyday occurrence?

PayPal Down

As many of you know you can no longer deposit in Entropia Universe through PayPal. This is not temporary. It’s the new norm. With the new chargeback rules that are in place it is highly unlikely that MindArk will ever be able to accept PayPal again. After talking with many smaller deposit players it’s clear this was their preferred method of deposit. For many of them it was the only option they had. Deposit via PayPal or be free to play. There is no in between.

This means that it just became much more important for MindArk to pay attention to the concerns of their big depositors. While I can say that MindArk has generally done a good job of this now it’s mandatory. How long do they think we will stick around if we are worried about our 20,000 PED rings becoming de-buffed? Do they really believe we will participate in events like Mayhem if we are concerned they may claim a programming accident after it’s over? I can guarantee you we will not. With the loss of PayPal the worst thing MindArk could do would be to make big spenders worry about their investment.

Protecting Money Comes Before Making Money

Most people believe that it’s hard to make money. This is actually not true. What’s hard is keeping the money you make. Anyone with enough money to be a serious deposit player knows this. Every professional investor knows this. And any business owner should know this. The first question you ask yourself in any investment is how safe is the initial investment?

R.O.I. matters; a lot. But being sure you’re investment is safe comes before the returns it will generate. With actions like these allowed to stand how safe do you feel your investment in EU is now? For the first time my confidence is shaken. And that is a MASSIVE problem.

Catch 20/20

Auto loot pets are rare and valuable. In reality this is what likely caused the issue. Having a low level, easy to tame, mass spawn auto loot pet was a horrible decision. I knew that from the moment I heard about it. But it was a decision that was made and which had a huge event. A week long event with heavy publicity and a massive crowd.

Defrauding one segment of the customer base to protect the investments of another is not acceptable. Especially in a game based on a real cash economy. Being proactive in how you develop and run the game is the literal job description. This event should have never been happened. It should never planned or announced. Above all it should never have run the entire week long course.

This is simply damage control. But it’s not controlling the damage. The auto loot buff is only 5 meters. That’s barely even useful. The cost of feeding and leveling the pet make other options better. Keeping it fed to use the buff is an even greater cost. For the majority of players auto loot pills are still the better alternative. (But remember that MindArk makes money when you buy those)

A Better Solution

The only ethical, and legal decision, would have been to stop making the pets tame-able immediately. (To some extent this was done AFTER the event had ended.) Allow the ones already tamed to remain as they were. If you really wanted to keep the pet spawning and remove auto-loot create a second version called L.A.R.A. Generation 2. Adjust the buffs and programming as you saw fit. We know this is very easy to do. It has been done with many other creatures in game. It is also the basis for Adjusted, Modified, Improved and Perfected items. But that is not what happened. Instead the players were defrauded while MindArk stood by and did NOTHING.

If you want the definition of Fraud and Gross Negligence there it is in black and white. Next Islands ability to be a Planet Partner should be immediately revoked. MindArk should force the development team to do the right thing. Let the already tamed pets stand. But they won’t. Until it hits them economically they will do nothing.

Consequences

While it may not be feasible to sue the owners of Next Island I did find a solution. I had origionally wanted to bloackade Next Island. Logistically that would have been a nightmare. But as they say “The pen is mightier than the sword”. This article has been search engine optimized. I am calling on everyone who was defrauded in this event to share this article. Share it on social media, post it to the forums, post it in chat channels. Make sure every player, new or old, sees this article everytime they log in to Entropia.

We all need a constant reminder to strongly consider how much money we are risking in this game. Here it is. We need to remember to value the risk that comes from outside sources. At all times we should be thinking about the risk/ reward profile. When we deposit, hunt, craft, mine or participate in an event we should always be weighing the risks.

I love Entropia Universe. It’s a huge part of my life. And I hope it remains so for a very long time. But for the first time I am not convinced that my investments of time and money are 100% safe. This is the first time I have had trouble sleeping at night because of this game. And it will be the last. Or this game will be a closed chapter in the history of my life.

Final Thoughts

For the first time I am closing without inviting anyone to join us as a member of this site. If you are considering playing Entropia Universe I would instead encourage you to try it out. Make some friends and re-read this article. Think long and hard about how much risk you are willing to take before you start looking for ways to earn PED. I hope this generates the press and attention that is needed to wake MindArk up.

Next Island will remain a dead planet from this day on because of this event. I sincerely hope the same does not happen to the rest of our beloved universe.

NEVER FORGET THE DAY NEXT ISLAND DEFRAUDED THE PLAYERS OF ENTROPIA UNIVERSE! They don’t deserve the title of Planet Partner.

DPS Service: Earning PED Hunting For Hire

DPS Service

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:53 pm

Earning PED in Entropia Universe with a DPS service can be profitable. It’s also one of the player run services that requires skill. I wanted to take a moment to look at this particular earning method. It’s something you don’t see everyday and something few players know about. Maybe it’s a service you want or maybe even one you need! Demand for DPS services is set to skyrocket soon so let’s take a look at what it is and how it works!

What Is DPS Servcie?

DPS service stands for Damage Per Second. It’s a hunting service. And this is the reason not just any EU player can offer it. I recently spoke to Green Toker 1987. He’s an earnPED member who offers a well known DPS service. I wanted to find out more about exactly what it is he does and why. Much of the information from this article came directly from Toker’s experience running a DPS service.

DPS Service
DPS Service

One of the most common reasons people will hire for a DPS service is event related. A lot of times Toker gets hired because there is a specific mob that needs to be killed. This can be done in a team setting or solo. Often people will request a team setting when a mob has a high regeneration rate. They may also request team setting when they need both damage dealt and may need healing while hunting.

In this case Toker is acting as both a hunter for hire and a healer for hire. Since he also does healing for hire he has the right equipment for both. This is also beneficial when he solo hunts. Should he start to take damage he has the appropriate FAP to survive the encounter.

Solo DPS Services

So why would someone hire Green Toker 1987 for solo DPS services? After all hunting is half the fun! Well there are special circumstances when it makes sense. Sometimes event mobs drop rare items. Other times there are event items that can be looted faster by two players rather than one. In these instances it makes sense to hire another experienced hunter. Maybe you want to farm event tokens. You may be trying to loot a rare event item. Having two people in the field hunting stacks the odds in your favor.

Another important reason would be if you can’t hunt. Sometimes event mobs are simply too tough for you to take on alone. Other times you may have to watch your skill levels to avoid causing problems with competitions you’re in. I often times have to scale back my hunting to be sure I can compete in the next Mayhem event. These are all great examples of when a DPS service can come in handy.

What To Look For In A DPS Service

If you are considering hiring a hunter for DPS service be sure and look for a few things. The first thing you want to look at is their defense skills. Many of you know I am big on defense and regularly farm evade skills at Zychion Citadel. Second you want to look at the weapon they are using. You want to be sure it delivers the amount of damage per second you are looking for. Also be sure to consider the weapons efficiency and decay rate.

Lastly a good DPS service provider will also consider using amps, sights and scopes. Amps will add to the damage per second they can deliver. Scopes and Sights will add to the cost to kill. It will increase the decay and therefore increase the cost of the service but that may be beneficial.

This is because it’s believed that HOF’s and ATH’s are tied to cost-to-kill. Current theory holds that the max multiplier you can hit is the cost of action x 10,000. This is what results in All Time Highs. By adding Scopes and Sights the increased decay increases the cost to kill and therefore the potential payout. Especially important during some events.

Other DPS Gear

In addition to looking at the weapon set up look at their other gear. Do they have increased reload speed using an Ares Ring Improved or an Ares Ring Modified? Can they use a Summer Ring 2017 to improve their defense stats? You will also want to find out what type or armor they will be using and which Enhancers if any.

You really want to look at the entire hunting set up. Make sure they have everything exactly how you want it. If you are not happy with the equipment they are planning to use see if there’s a way you can help. Remember that you want to find a hunter who properly meets your needs. This will usually mean having the right skills as well as the right equipment.

Pills And Add Ons

Don’t be afraid to ask about add on services. Some hunters for hire will have special pills they can take like Modified Neurostim. These pills can further increase their reload speed and damage per second. Other pills will help save time by auto-looting creatures killed. Some hunters offering DPS services will have additional capabilities through pills that you can add for a small additional fee.

Some hunters will prefer to supply their own pills, enhancers and other consumables for a mark up. Others will prefer that you provide them for use during the hunt. Be sure and negotiate the deal that works for you financially and meets your needs in game.

Paying For DPS Services

As with all things in EU paying a hunter for hire for DPS services is negotiable. Some hunters for hire are happy having their decay covered and possibly getting a tip. You will expected to supply the shrapnel they need for the hunt. Others may require a flat fee per hour but this is rare. Usually the best hunters with the best gear can demand the best rates.

Other common negotiation points are loot split and reporting. One of the reasons for having your DPS service provider in a team is to track loot. This keeps the hunter from keeping part of the loot and not telling you. Keep in mind that a lot of hunters also stream. Especially the higher level hunters.

You may be able to watch your hunter live on streaming services like Twitch. This makes the experience more enjoyable while keeping everyone honest. Whatever you negotiate remember that it has to work for both you and the service provider. If you have someone willing to work for decay please remember to tip. Even if they come back with a net loss they took time out of their day to work for you. You can generate a lot of good will, and future service discounts, with even small tips.

Starting Your Own DPS Service

There are several earnPED members who already provide these services. Members include: Green Toker 1987, Sarah SaraWatson Watson and Steve StevieB Braggs. You may be able to offer these services by utilizing our Ninja Rental Program to rent the gear you would need.

With the upcoming mission system upgrade these services are likely to be in even higher demand. In the meantime be sure and check back often for new articles and guides. We are busy trying to add new content. There are also Videos and Offers that help out members earn PED. Calypso Land Deeds Entropia Universe Passive Income

Calypso Land Deed

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:54 pm

Calypso Land Deeds are one of the best ways to earn passive income playing Entropia Universe. In fact if you plan to play seriously they are an absolute must. Today I want to break down CLD’s and explain the snowball effect. This will show you how you can use CLD’s to really grow your wealth. Let’s take an in depth look at this unique tool so you can better understand it.

Calypso Land Deed

In 2011 MindArk created the Calypso Land Deed. This was a new and unique opportunity for EU members. There were a total of 60,000 CLD’s created. That is all there is and there will never be any more or any less. Each deed you own gives you a small stake in the operation of Planet Calypso.

Calypso Land Deed
Calypso Land Deed

While there are other Deeds available in EU the CLD is arguably the most valuable. The reason is due to it’s design. There were only 60,000 CLD’s created. That is a pretty small number considering the player base. Each Calypso Land Deed was originally sold for 1,000 PED. That’s the equivalent of $100 US.

The Importance of CLD’s

There primary function of a CLD is to generate revenue for the owner. Each Sunday 1/2 of the gross revenue from Planet Calypso is paid to the CLD holders. Each CLD owner is entitled to 1/60,000th of that revenue for each deed they hold. This means that by simply purchasing and holding a CLD you will receive income each week.

Additionally, CLD’s do not have a fixed price. The price of Calypso Land Deeds fluctuates with the demands of the market. By the time I started playing Entropia the price had already doubled. While the price may go up some or down a little they are a relatively stable investment. It has been planned that owning Calypso Land Deeds will someday lead to a voting system. This hasn’t happened yet but we can always hope.

Why Invest In Calypso Land Deeds

Most players buy CLD’s because they want the weekly income. That’s a great reason to buy them and a great way to fund your game play. But there are more reasons than just income to hold CLD. CLD revenue varies depending on a number of factors. Event’s like Mayhem have a impact on CLD revenue. At current prices they have a fair, but not massive, return on investment. You can track you ROI using the player made Calypso Land Deed Investment Tracker.

The second reason to buy CLD’s is appreciation. In fact some players are able to arbitrage CLD prices in game. Not my cup of tea but it is possible. If you can get a good deal on your CLD purchase it can greatly increase your overall ROI. I personally own a small number of CLD’s and have only purchase them at discount prices. This has helped me to keep the ROI more in line with what I expect of my investments.

There is arguably a third reason to own CLD’s that not many people talk about. Using them as collateral.

CLD As Collateral

Calypso Land Deeds have great value, the prices are relatively stable and they generate income. This makes them perfect to use as collateral. While it is not talked about a lot there are rental programs available in game. Most of you are likely familiar with our Ninja Rentals Program. Our rental program is not unique within EU. At higher levels big time players rent hard to find items all the time.

Any time you rent an item you are going to be required to put up collateral. Some players will only require collateral equal to the items value. We generally require item value + rental fee + headache fee. This is because we want our items back. Many of them are very rare and would be nearly impossible to replace. For this reason we often require collateral beyond the items trade value.

Calypso Land Deeds make great collateral when renting items. The price is pretty easy to agree on because of price stability. You can use a small number of CLD’s as a large amount of collateral. This takes up less storage space and requires you to keep track of fewer items. And they generate revenue which can help in your rental negotiations. No one really talks about it but CLD’s make great collateral. In fact they are almost ideal for high value transactions.

CLD Vs CLD(X)

Looking at the auction system for even a moment you will notice something odd. There are CLD’s and CLD(x)’s. So what’s the difference? Virtually nothing.

Calypso Land Deed(X)
Calypso Land Deed(X)

When CLD’s were first created there was a land plot creation planned. If you owned a certain number of Calypso Land Deeds you would be able to get your hands on a small land plot. A few years later this is what happened. You had to own 10 or more CLD to claim a plot. The amount you owned determined the size of the plot.

Once a CLD was used to get a land plot it was turned into a CLD(X). The payouts are the same. The prices are virtually identical. All the (X) denotes is that it was once used to obtain a land plot. That’s it. Those land plots do come up for sale now and then. It’s a part of the game that was never fully developed. For all reasonable purposes there’s no real difference between the two. In fact if you can get one a bit cheaper simply because it’s a CLD(X) all the better for your ROI.

The Snowball Effect

The reason I stress owning Calypso Land Deeds is because of the impact it can have on your career playing EU. Each CLD may not pay a lot per week but it adds up fast when you have several. This can eventually lead to being able to play 100% from passive income. It also allows you to slowly save for the day you decide to withdrawal from EU. That’s why I am such a fan of the snowball effect.

If you can’t afford to jump right into a CLD start small. There are other deeds available in game which are more affordable. They may not be as great as a CLD but they still generate income. We’ll talk about Arkadia Moon Deeds and Arkadia Underground Deeds in the future. Start with AUD if you have to. Buy them up on a regular basis.

Doing this will generate income while building your portfolio. When you have enough AUD’s sell them and purchase one CLD. Now repeat this process. Doing this over and over will take time but you will quickly see results. Before you know it you will have enough passive income to start buying AUD’s with just the passive income. This isn’t just something I advise in game. In real life investment the snowball effect is a proven way to build wealth and passive income.

My in game passive income is now enough I could easily add a Calypso Land Deed to my portfolio every month. Why don’t I? Better investment opportunities elsewhere. If I can pick a CLD up at a discount or on favorable terms I will. Otherwise I have to look at what has the best ROI. Most of all don’t be afraid to get creative!

My Recent CLD Buy

The other day a close friend came to me. He needed some PED to be able to grind out Summer Migration 2019. Only problem was he didn’t want to deposit at the moment. This is someone I know to be as honest as they come. He’s an earnPED member and a close personal friend. So we came up with a creative solution.

I bought one of his CLD’s for 1,900 PED. That’s about 170 PED below today’s market rate. I’m going to hold this CLD and collect the weekly revenue for the next few months. He has until a certain date to buy the CLD back for 2,000 PED. The weekly revenue mixed with the higher buy back price gives me the ROI I needed in order to justify the deal.

We will both be keeping an eye on the price of Calypso Land Deeds. Should the price fall for some reason we will consider our options. The only problem with a deal like this is the buy back. ALL trades are final in game. There’s no way to guarantee someone will honor a deal like this. So why would he trust me to sell it back to him at less than the market value?

If you’ve read my article on Reputation Management you know reputation is everything. I would not have done this deal for just anyone. In fact he is one of the only people I would’ve done it for. I have to be able to trust that he will buy it back. He has to be able to trust that I will sell it back at that price. This is a unique level of trust you won’t find often in Entropia. But I’m happy with the deal and even happier to be able to help a friend. Don’t be afraid to get creative; just be careful who you get creative with!

Passive Income Wins The Game

There are very few ways to really win at Entropia. Even less ways to play without spending a fortune. One of the easiest and most sure-fire ways to play is passive income. The best way to generate passive income is with in game deeds. And you won’t find a better in game deed than the Calypso Land Deed.

They may be expensive but that’s one reason we created earnPED. We want each of our members to be in EU for a long time. By providing Videos and other Offers we can help you create passive income. Some of our members are using their earnPED income to save for a CLD. It’s one of the methods I used when I started and it works. Becoming a member is always FREE so be sure and Join Us today!

The Church Of Tommy: Entropia Universe Society’s

Entropia Universe Society's

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:54 pm

The Church of Tommy was a unique concept in Entropia Universe. It was born out of the fact that in game Society’s are inherently flawed. This is one area of the game that needs drastic improvement. Since someone brought the subject up let’s take a look at it. What we find may be a little surprising. You may end up finding exactly where you do, and don’t, want to be.

Guilds And Society’s

Most popular MMORPG’s like World Of Warcraft or Runescape have some sort of society or guild. A group inside the game you can join. Somewhere you can make friends and have adventures. Entropia Universe is no different in this respect. Once you are in the game you will have the ability to join various Society’s. But Entropia Universe is unlike any other game. That means that the society’s you will find are unlike those in other games.

Ghost Players And Society’s

The problem that I have seen over and over is ghost players. Entropia Universe is often advertised as a Free To Play game that can make you money. We’ve established that this is technically true it’s not the whole picture. The fact is you will likely have to deposit. There are very few free things you can do. None of which stay entertaining long term. This spills over into in game society’s.

Society’s are started by new players who are excited about the game. They gain members who are usually also new. For a few weeks everything is amazing. People game around the clock. The society chat channel is always active. You can do group activities, talk about the game and make friends. But then the society starts to die off.

You slowly notice that fewer society members are online. The society chat channel starts to die down. Before you know if you are the only one logged in. You will often find yourself waiting days or weeks without other members online. Eventually you decide to look up the other members. What you will see over and over is the same message: Member has not logged in for 100 days. This is because only a small fraction of new players stay. They realize you have to deposit in order to play or make money so they leave.

Real Life

Real life also happens. People have families. Kids have sporting events and people take vacations. There are careers that need to be focused on. At the end of the day even some of the most dedicated players have to take a break because of real life. Then there’s the burn out factor. Even the most dedicated grinder will experience burn out at some point.

When you combined all of this facts together it’s no wonder why so many society’s fail. It’s why you will rarely see the same people in game every single day. That is the inherent flaw in the system. And out of this flaw the Church of Tommy was born.

Entropia Universe Society's
Entropia Universe Society’s

Founding The Church Of Tommy

Back in mid-2018 when I was still a pretty new player I was at a Sweat Circle one day. I was Googling the game and had gotten tired of farming Evade at Zychion Citadel. There was nothing really special about that day. The sweat circle was just another sweat circle. Then suddenly someone said “Tommy Be Praised!”. That player was Fatteus Fatty Thorsson; and we’ve been friends every since.

I had no idea who Tommy was. No idea what he had done that was so cool. But I knew this Fatty character seemed to be funny guy. So for no apparent reason I started saying it too. Then we started making it our thing. Everywhere we went we would say it over and over again. As time went on other players started saying it too. Before you knew it we were all friends and we were always online.

Fatty The High Profit

Let me be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR: Fatty is the one that started the CoT. Not me. It was his idea and he should 100% get the credit for it. The fact that people are trying to give me credit for someone else’s idea is pretty shameful. Fatty is the one that started it that day. He has also played a vital role in everything from the chat channel to the discord. If it wasn’t for Fatty’s dedication the CoT would not exist.

While the rest of us gave Fatty a lot of input it was his creation. He still runs the CoT today. We helped him create the core beliefs and backstory. But at the end of the day it is his creation and it would not be the same without him. Also please note that we call him the High Profit as in All Time High and Profit as in PED. Not Prophet as in religious. This is a common misconception.

Part of the reason it caught on so fast is because of the Lootius theory. For years players have claimed that some magical deity called Lootius controls loot returns. It’s easier than admitting they don’t know what they are doing. Some of the same people have no grasp of statistics. But I find it hard to believe anyone in EU actually believes in some sort of game-god. That would make you one of the stupidest people on earth. But then again players stupidity levels never fail to surprise me.

The CoT Backstory

We decided early on that the Church of Tommy should NOT be an official Society. For all of the reasons listed above we felt it was a bad idea. So instead we decided to start the #ChurchOfTommy chat channel in game. This is the chat channel we still mainly use today. You will often find me there. If i’m not active I’m probably still watching the chat.

We also decided that the CoT needed an official backstory. What we came up with was absolutely brilliant. Our theory is that a man named Tommy wrote the first line of code for what would later become Entropia Universe. If MindArk ever discloses the first programmers name and if it is not Tommy I will admit it. Until then I am simply going to consider that persons name was Tommy.

That being the case it would only make sense that he was the first avatar. Tommy would have had to code the Random Number Generator’s for the game. He would have also had to code the loot algorithms. So by this logic it made sense that Tommny was the first great avatar. The creator of the Entropian Universe.

Values And Real Life Ministry

From the start we agreed that the Church of Tommy should more or less be based on our beliefs. I was raised Assembly of God Christian. Anyone who knows me knows that when I was 18 I became an Atheist. A VERY outspoken one at that. But then something happened that would change my life forever. I made an hour long road trip to meet a woman. And the moment I met her I realized I had been wrong.

A promise I was made at 18 which I thought was impossible was shown to me that day. My friends know that my Fiancee was that woman. Her in game name is Princess Hofsalot MiraclePromise. She was the miracle I was promised. If you have known me for any amount of time you know there have been some real struggles in our life. Things that would break most people.

I’ve done live-streams and told you guys what would happen. And then it did. That’s because I know the power of prayer. I could tell you story after story of miracle after miracle. I wanted to share the amazing things that have happened in my life. But I didn’t want to offend anyone or be pushy.

The Christian Concept

The CoT has always included people of all beliefs. We are not here to judge. After all; it’s a video game. Not real life. But we still based it on some basic Christian concepts. There was a great creator of the universe. He has left us but will return someday. Blessings are from him but we do not chase them out of greed. We work to help others and lead by example.

All of the core CoT concepts are Christian based. I don’t feel this in any way contradicts what my personal beliefs are. Look at the universe around us. Mathematically it had to be programmed. The only way I can explain Fibonacci Ratio’s is if I admit that the universe I live in is programmed by design. I don’t have time to tell all the story’s here but some of you have seen it happen live.

Michael Tyler Stewart is one player who saw it. And because of it he has had some amazing things happen in his personal life. Nothing could make me happier. The CoT was more than just a group of friends. It was a real life ministry opportunity. One that has allowed me to share the great things that have happened in my life. And something that has had a positive impact on several other players. For that I am externally thankful.

Why Bashing The CoT Was A Bad Idea

The fact of the matter is I’m not joking. And some people are about to learn that the hard way. Some people have recently decided to try and trash my reputation. These same people stole from me then tried to spread lies about me. And then they want to attack something I designed to help me minister to others? Take a moment and look up some information from the Bible. Do you know what happens when you try and attack someone who has God’s favor?

It generally does not end well. My God is a merciful, forgiving, loving, peaceful, vengeful God. And when you attack one of his people you are attacking him directly. I don’t have to know who you are. It will be taken care of for me. The Bible says that no weapon formed against me will be allowed to stand. I’ve had some BIG weapons pointed my direction before. NONE of them have succeeded.

I may never know when or what; but it will be taken care of for me. And when it happens you will know. Remember the actions you took. Think about the money you stole. The lies you spread and the harm you tried to do. I promise you what you meant for my harm He will use for my blessing. You can bet your PED card on that.

Other Society Applications

At the root of it this article is about the flaws with Society’s. The University of EU is the official in game society of earnPED. We intend to keep it active and you will meet great people. Many of whom are online virtually everyday. We actively try and weed out people who don’t reflect our dedication to serving others. Hopefully we can one day use this group to enjoy some of the things it was meant for.

Likely the coolest and least used feature of Society’s is land grabs. There are several land areas that come up for grabs every so often. Each society has a chance to engage in a PvP battle for control of the land area. If your group wins the income from the land area goes to your Society’s members for a certain amount of time. There are currently a few groups that dominate these events. One of my goals is that our members can one day soon participate in these events.

Conclusions About Society’s

In closing let me advise that you find an in game Society like University of EU. A group that has players who are dedicated to logging in daily. Somewhere the people are willing to help you learn the game. But let me also remind you that this is a game of opportunities. Regardless of your personal beliefs I think this is wonderful. We have so few chances to share our story with others. Make of it what you will.

Personally I will always like the CoT concept. I will always believe in it’s core beliefs. You will often be able to find me in #ChurchofTommy chat channel. At least until the day MindArk reveals to me the first programmers name.

I usually close my articles by giving people a chance to Join Us. Our members are able to watch Videos and complete Offers to earn PED. We even have a Music Video Competition underway as we attempt to build sponsored radio. Today I want to go a step further. If there is something missing in your life, if you don’t understand “those people” contact me in game. Allow me the chance to tell you my full story. Let me share with you the things God has done in my life. I was in a place darker than you could ever imagine. I received the greatest gift I could ever receive that day. And I’m willing to share it with anyone who wants it.

Planet Calypso Forum: The Hell Hole Of Entropia Universe

Planet Calypso Forum

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:54 pm

Planet Calypso Forum is the hell hole of Entropia Universe. It’s a place filled with people smarter than you. Keyboard warriors who call it a global because swirlie’s remind them of high school. This is the part of the game that makes it hard to call EU a great place. Since some of those keyboard warriors think they’re so smart let me show you the real PCF.

Planet Calypso Forum

PCF as it is usually called was created by MindArk. The problem is it is largely ran by players. Players who should be running it don’t. Ones who shouldn’t be do. There are some good people there. You will even find some great moderators. But generally speaking it’s hard for me to say they represent the best of EU.

There are a variety of threads and subjects. It’s best uses are keeping up with official news and the trading forum. In addition there is a trove of information that new players can access. If you have a question about the game someone has posted it on PCF before you. This makes it a great point of reference. Just don’t expect to find decent people.

How Getting Banned Made Me A Small Fortune

It’s no secret that soon after I started playing I was banned from the forum. Probably one of the LUCKIEST breaks I ever got in EU. To this day I thank my lucky stars. Here’s how it all went down and why it made me some great money:

Meeting A Legend

When I first started using Planet Calypso Forum I saw an ad by a player who was offering to pay you if you took his skills. Not understanding the cost involved in Skill Chipping I contacted him. He was kind enough to explain to me how much it would cost. It was very apparent that chipping skills was not for me.

As luck would have it the same player had a Land Area for sale. He is well known for buying and selling Land Areas so I was interested. Unfortunately that property had already been sold. After talking at length it seemed that being a land owner would require more time than I could dedicate. I had already had to put 181CloseNow.com on hold because of the contract I had with House Kings. I wanted in game income without the labor.

Once he realized that I had the money to act he found me the perfect deal. Another well known property owner was looking to purchase a property. In order to make the deal work favorable financing was needed. I learned about the people involved. Even went and scoped out the Land Areas. At the end of the day it was a SOLID deal. The best part is that everyone was thrilled with the terms. So we set a tentative closing date for early October 2018.

PCF Members Missed Opportunity

One of the first, and only, posts I ever made on PCF had this deal at the core. In the services section I posted an add for an investment fund. The logic was pretty straight forward. When the deal closed I was 100% financing the deal. After it was closed I was going to allow any EU member to purchase part of the deal AT COST. This would have allowed the EU community to make a fixed rate of return no matter how much or how little they decided to put in.

So if the deal was for 200,000 PED and someone wanted to put up 2,000 PED then I would’ve owned 99% of the note and they wouldv’e owned 1% of the note. We would have each received the same return on investment. In addition there was NO FEES of any kind. I knew up front I would have to keep track of everything and spend time dishing out payments each month. I knew I wouldn’t be compensated for my time but that was OK.

Instead of members being thrilled about the stunning returns the deal offered I was made fun of. They mocked me, laughed at me and were downright cruel. What’s really disappointing is these were not new players. Several of them were old school players. After a few days I realized I was an absolute IDIOT for offering to give up part of a lucrative deal for no reason. I closed the fund, closed the thread and did the deal myself. The full thread has been captured below but if you would like to visit the real version you can do so here.

The Impossible Deal

I deposited 200,000 PED into EU a few days later. (My initial plan was to deposit 340,000 PED but the deal ended up requiring less) After the deposit I contacted each of the people that mocked me. I offered to play show me your PED Card. Whoever had the highest balance wins ALL of the other players PED. Not a single one of them had the guts to do it. They were keyboard warriors and nothing more.

I closed the deal as planned. And that is why I make tons of money simply logging in. Every month I log in on a certain day and I get paid THOUSANDS of PED. Everyone on Planet Calypso Forum had a chance to be a part of that deal but they mocked me instead. That deal funds 100%+ of my game play. It’s how I’ve got the gear I have. My name is always on the Mayhem winners list because of it. And everyone in EU could have gotten a piece of the action had they simply asked.

Brokering On PCF

During the same period I met a Planet Calypso Forum member who was leaving the game. They had already liquidated most of their in game items. I asked what they planned to do about their skills and they didn’t have a plan. We made a simple deal. I would keep advertising the skills for as long as it took. When I had a buyer for a skill I would contact them and they could log in to do the deal. In exchange I would get a part of each deal.

So I posted the skills for sale on PCF. Yet again I was met with nothing but childish insults. If the logic behind brokering a transaction is too complex for you then I truly feel bad for you. Life will be very hard. But for many of the PCF members the concept was lost. I also caught a lot of flack because since I was new I didn’t know that Sweat Gatherer Skills can’t be chipped.

Banning

A few days after all of this my Planet Calypso Forum account was banned. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. Why would I want to be a part of a place like that? What kind of place let’s its members openly abuse new players and bans the new player?

Don’t get me wrong. The KenoZuki’s of the wold deserve it. You cheat someone out of money I have no use for you. The Jason Deal’s of the world are no better. I’m sorry you can go to church all you want. 17 years in prison for attempted murder. Raping a woman every night for years on end because she has no where to go. In no way are people like this deserving of my respect. (Then again you wouldn’t have passed intro to community college had I not done the work for you)

But someone who is new. Someone trying to help other players. That’s the person you ban? Not the members openly mocking them? Not my kind of place. The Irony is if PCF members had taken a part of the deal I wouldn’t have made the money I have. There wouldn’t have been consecutive Mayhem wins. In fact this website wouldn’t exist had I not got banned. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!

The Good Side Of PCF

Now that you have been thoroughly warned about PCF let me say this. There is a good side to the place. You can stay up-to-date on official EU announcements. The trading forums are great places to find cool stuff for sale. You can also find out what people are actively wanting to purchase.

More importantly there are mountains of information. They have hunting logs and mob locations. Best of all if you have a question someone else has already asked it. It’s a treasure trove of information. Sadly the value of the information far outweighs the value of the members. It’s like anything in life there will always be a few bad apples. You will always run across the Jason Deals and the KenoZuki’s.

At the end of the day it can be a great tool to help you learn. You may even earn some PED from the place. It’s just not the corner of the internet you want to hand out in too much.

Final Thoughts On Planet Calypso Forum

Out of all the BS I put up with on PCF I have one good thing to say. Of the many members who mocked me ONE was decent enough to message me and apologize. Dan XDanDunnX thank you for having the good character to apologize when you were in the wrong. I have not and will not forget it.

I usually close by inviting people to join earnPED. Today i’m going to give you choice. If PCF sounds like your type of place please by all means enjoy it until karma bites you. On the other hand if you’re the kind of person who enjoys helping others and who would give away a lucrative deal to help you fellow gamer’s we would love to have you.

If you would like to Join Us the only requirement is that you are of good character. We have Offers and Videos that will help you earn PED. I’m also adding new content to help our members learn to play smarter and earn more. Entropia is like life. People will always try to bash you. They will lie, cheat and steal. But at the end of the day the KenoZuki’s and Jason Deal’s of the world always show their true colors.

Attributes Vs Skills: The Chipping Problem

attributes

This post was last updated on June 19th, 2022 at 03:54 pm

Attributes and Skills are related but different. The way they function creates a problem for new players. Since I was accused of chipping in yesterday (like that’s somehow a bad thing) I want to look at skilling. Entropia Universe creates a catch 22 in this area. What works for me may not work for you. And what works for you won’t work for everyone else. Let’s look at the issue in a bit more detail.

Attributes

Attributes are very similar to skills. In fact you have to learn which ones are attributes. As you Hunt you gain skills. You will receive skill points which are weapons related and defense related. But you will also be awarded Attribute points and they will look the same. Agility, Health, Intelligence, Psyche, Stamina and Strength are all attributes.

While they may look and act a lot like skills there are two big differences. First they can not be added or removed from your avatar. With skills you can simply chip in and out. This is where the catch 22 will come from. Second, you gain them far slower than you gain regular skills. They are MUCH harder to obtain and they become very important later in the game.

The Chipping Issue

Generally you want to chip out late in the game. Since every skill point is worth more than the one before it chipping out later is ideal. A new player would have to go from 0-1900 skill points to have 10 PED TT of a skill. For the more experienced player the 7 skill points between 10,000 and 10,007 have the same value. This means chipping out doesn’t effect their profession levels.

Knowing this we can determine chipping in early gives you the most value. A small 10 PED TT chip can take you from 0-1900 points. This helps you skip the most levels. The problem is that by chipping in we give up the chance to gain attributes at a natural rate.

Natural Skilling

As many of you know I spent my first 6 months in game Farming Free Defense Skills At Zychion Citadel. When you skill naturally the system awards points in a proportionate manner. You may get 3 points of Evade, 1 point of Athletics, 1.75 points of Combat Reflexes. They are all defense skills but you get them in varying amounts.

Natural skilling will also award attribute points such as Agility. This means that everything rises in sync with each other. Let’s take a look at my skills as of today:

attributes
attributes
  • Combat Reflexes 4,164
  • Athletics 3,589
  • Courage 3,246
  • Evade 3,012
  • Dodge 2,392
  • Alertness 2,102
  • Serendipity 2,013
  • Agility 63

You can accuse me of chipping in all you like; the numbers don’t lie. It would be impossible for me to have 63 Agility points had I chipped in even a fraction of these skills. The one skill that I DID chip in was about 10 TT worth of Dodge right before Easter Mayhem 2019.

Some of the more experienced players may notice there also seems to be a slight Combat Reflexes skew natural skilling wouldn’t explain. This is because of the mission rewards for the first several Iron Drone Missions and Iron Argonaut missions.

Attributes In Late Game Play

Some of you may not care about 3 years from now. Everyone plays different. But Attributes play a huge role later in the game. While reaching 10,000 skill points may be a challenge reaching 100 attribute points is even more daunting. They can play a huge role in HP when you have seemingly maxed your HP gains from skills.

This is why some of the best players in the game wait a very long time to chip in. They want their attributes to grow as high as possible before artificially increasing their skills. Personally I agree. It’s the smart move if you plan to play the game for a very long time. All the more important if you intend to compete in events or be active in PvP areas.

Do I believe that they are the end all? No. But it is why I believe in skilling naturally as much as possible. While many people complain about the Mayhem category structure it has actually helped me in this area. I have chipped out a LOT of my combat skills to keep my profession levels artificially low so I can compete in Mayhem. This has allowed my defense skills and my attributes to grow at a higher rate than would otherwise be possible.

There’s Nothing Wrong With Chipping

While some view chipping as a bad thing I disagree. People want to claim because I’m not level 100 Laser Sniper I have no experience. If they knew the game half as well as I do they would be able to tell from a persons skill window what they have chipped in and out. I think there are many times where chipping in is appropriate. There are also times when chipping out is appropriate.

But you have to look at more than the immediate cost or benefits. If you plan to play EU long term you need to look at the whole picture before deciding what’s right for you. Players who chip in early may be able to use weapons and tools they really don’t understand yet. They are also giving up a valuable opportunity to keep their skills and attributes in sync with one another.

Attribute Advice

In closing I want to give some really simple advice on the subject. If you are just here to play casually, have fun and think you will be gone in a few months chip in. The game will be more fun and you’ll be able to do more stuff. On the other hand do not chip in if you plan to be here long term. If you want to play this game for years or really make money with it you are going to need those attributes. Take it slow, grind away and skill naturally.

We are always happy to have long term players Join Us. We have plenty of Offers and Videos to help you earn PED. I also try and take time to answer any questions players have. Personally, I will be here for as long as the game is. NOTHING is going to change that.
