The earnPED Video Contest is official LIVE! I announced a while back that I really wanted to create a radio station earning system. Something that would allow members to earn PED simply listening to music. The problem is there aren’t many great ways to do it. So we’re creating our own! Help us make it awesome and you may win a CLD!
Sponsored Radio Issues
The problem with sponsored radio is there isn’t any. Let me be clear about something; this is not a charity. I have dumped virtually all of this sites earnings back to the members. Some of it was with sponsored events, hiring healers or giveaways. At the end of the day this site is here to help you learn to play better, to help you earn and to earn for me (so I can do cool stuff like sponsor events). When you watch videos, do surveys and complete offers we both earn. But there’s no sponsored radio programs which have survived.
PEDFLOW and Entropia Partners Radio
It’s no secret that this isn’t the only site of it’s kind. EntropiaPartners.com was the first website to help people earn PED. In fact I used them when I started playing. Guess what? We use the same systems! Same sponsors, videos, surveys; pretty much the same everything. The one thing they do that we do not is offer paid-to-listen radio.
PEDFLOW.com also has a pay to listen radio option. The problem with both of these radio systems is they aren’t sponsored. That means as you earn you are taking money directly out of their pockets. This is exactly why it’s usually free music. It’s also why it’s unsustainable.
Creating Sponsored Radio
I would love to create a sponsored radio system. But I can’t do it alone. I’ll need the help of each and every earnPED member. The only way to create sustainable radio is for it to be sponsored. In order to do that we need the EarnPED Youtube channel to qualify for the partner program. We also need music!
That is why I am running a contest where all of our members can submit their own music videos! Take your favorite tunes and create an in-game music video. You can be hunting, mining, dancing or just goofing off! As long as your video is original and falls under Fair Use then I’d love to see it!
video button
Video Competition guidelines
You must make a music video where the video segment features in-game play of Entropia Universe. Once you send me your video it will be uploaded to our earnPED Youtube channel. You can create as many music videos as you like. There is no submission limit as long as each video has a different song.
During the competition period the videos will be played. The videos that have the most likes (likes-dislikes=likes), the most comments and the most playtime at the end of the competition will be the three finalist. The earnPED members will then vote on their favorite video. If you create the video that wins that popular vote you will receive a FREE CLD!
Competition Time Frame
The competition begins immediately. I have already received a few videos and will upload them as I receive them. The competition will conclude when the earnPED Youtube Channel has 2,000 subscribers AND earnPED has 500 average active daily users completing at least 1 offer a day.
Why such high standards? Because this is not a charity. 95% of our registered users have never completed a single offer. The majority of users signed up, took the free stuff and then left. That is unacceptable to me. It’s a reflection of how lazy people have become and it is the opposite of everything I stand for.
I’ve had people like KenoZuki try and cheat the system only to try and bad mouth me. I built everything you see here to give the players a better tool. My competitors don’t help you find ways to play smarter. You won’t get help with in game questions from them. Some of them can barely even be bothered when you want to make a withdrawal. So it is up to the loyal active members to see this competition through.
If each of you submits videos, completes offers and helps other players then the competition will be a raging success. Should I have to do it all myself it will be a miserable failure.
Time Limit
The competition runs for one year from today. If we reach the above milestones sooner I will end the competition. On July 17, 2020 if these milestones have not been reached the competition will be declared void without winner. Any videos submitted will receive 1 PEC as compensation should this occur.
Additional Competition Guidelines
By submitting a music video to the competition you are giving earnPED the lifetime exclusive rights to use the content of the video. You are also declaring that it is an original creation. Any video which contains content we deem unacceptable or inappropriate will not be considered a valid entry.
Final Thoughts
I built this website to be a real resource players could use to learn and earn. Nothing but disappointment in my fellow gamer’s has followed. To those of you who have been loyal and active from the start THANK YOU. This competition is everyone’s last chance to restore my faith in the EU community. EarnPED is here for you, not me. It will be as great or as bad as you want it to be.
I’m one of the few who make money playing Entropia Universe (Consistently). You can Join Us and complete Offers and watch Videos to earn PED. You can read our guides and articles to learn to play like a pro. Or you can be part of the 95% that only cares about what they are getting today. That is up to you. I’m excited to see what kinds of videos you guys can come up with!

Today I want to do a case study on reputation management in Entropia Universe. This is something we don’t talk about. It’s also one of the reasons some players never get a chance at the game. Reputation really is everything in EU. Let’s take a look at the sad case of KenoZuki TheGreySoldier OneOfMany to see what we can do to avoid destroying our career before it’s started.
KenoZuki TheGreySoldier OneOfMany
KenoZuki just started playing Entropia Universe in the past 30 days or so. That is all I need to classify KenoZuki as a new player. New players usually have a steep learning curve. After all Entropia Universe isn’t like the games you’re used to.
Shortly after joining Entropia KenoZuki signed up as an earnPED member. As always I try and be available to help new players learn the game. I’m always happy to try and explain a game mechanic or find an article to provide to help you get ahead. I did the same for KenoZuki.
Payment History For KenoZuki
I could see that KenoZuki was using the website to complete offers. We accepted KenoZuki into our in game society and invited KenoZuki to participate in out in game events. I will provide screen shot payment proofs below once I pull them off my laptops hard drive (my puppy decided to play entropia and I can’t revive the laptop now).
On June 17, 2019 at 10:05 PM I paid KenoZuki 10.03 PED.
KenoZuki The GreySoldier OneOfMany June 17 2019
On June 21, 2019 at 5:43 PM I paid KenoZuki 10.04 PED at Zychion Citadel. I always love it when I see members Farming Free Defense Skills At Zychion Citadel. In this case not so much considering KenoZuki was cheating the system.
KenoZuki TheGreySoldier Payment Proof June 21 2019
On June 24, 2019 at 7:31 PM I paid KenoZuki 39.36 PED. Again I paid the withdrawal at Zychion Citadel.
KenoZuki The GreySoldier OneOfMany June 24 2019
On June 30, 2019 KenoZuki again wanted to make a withdrawal from earnPED. This time for 44.16 PED. At this point I had already ignored several warnings. I knew KenoZuki was cheating the system but I was trying to give KenoZuki a chance to be honest.
At this point I asked KenoZuki how they were earning PED so fast. I already knew the answer but wanted to see what I would be told. That’s when KenoZuki was kind enough to send me the following screen shot:
KenoZuki TheGreySoldier OneOfMany
A Clear TOU Violation
As you can see KenoZuki was running well over 24 browser windows at once trying to earn PED. This is a CLEAR violation of the earnPED Terms Of Use as well as the Hideout.TV TOU. There is no way to classify this as earning. This is the most blatant case of fraud I have ever seen from one of my users and it’s something I absolutely WILL NOT stand for.
I have said it before and I will say it again. All of this was created to help you earn PED. The advertisers are spending good money in order to get their ads in front of you. And if you respect that you will slowly earn what can become a large amount of PED. I personally made over 600 PED with a similar system before founding earnPED. And I did it the right way; one PEC at a time!
If you abuse it you lose it end of story. Sweating earns less than 5 cents per hour. And the price of sweat is dropping with no sign of ever recovering. Taking advantage of the advertisers and sponsors is unacceptable. Taking advantage of my kindness is unacceptable. Most importantly destroying your reputation is unacceptable.
A Chance At Redemption
After seeing that the earnings were blatantly fraudulent I still gave KenoZuki a chance. They had been honest about how they were doing it so I figured they deserved that much. I told KenoZuki that if they would wait until the charge back period passed I would honor the earnings if they were allowed to stand.
All KenoZuki had to do was wait to be sure that the earnings were not charged back. I also told KenoZuki that I’m under a contractual obligation to report any member I suspect of abusing the earnings system but I was hesitant to do so.
Instead of accepting my offer KenoZuki decided to tell me how everything works. Then decided it was a good idea to report ME for harassment and start spreading lies about the situation in hopes of hurting my business. Not only is this unacceptable; it’s something only a child would do.
Entropia Universe runs on a real cash economy. There are tens of thousands of dollars up for grabs. Why would I ever do business with someone who has absolutely no integrity? Would you want to trade or do business with a liar and a thief? I know I wouldn’t. Not only will I not do business with such people in game; I will not allow them on this website.
The EU community is tight knit. Everyone knows my reputation. All KenoZuki has accomplished is destroying his own reputation before their career in EU even got off the ground. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Don’t take my word for it. The screenshots above tell you everything you need to know.
Reputation Beyond Reproach Fatteus Fatty Thorsson
We can compare the above situation with that of Fatteus Fatty Thorsson. Fatty has been a good friend of mine almost since I started playing EU. He truly represents what earnPED believes in: helping others learn to play smarter and earn more. I can not say enough about how honest of a guy Fatty is. I don’t just consider him a fellow gamer; he’s a real friend.
Fatty is the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back. In fact he can be a little too giving and caring. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact I think we need more people like him if we want Entropia Universe to last another 15 years.
A few weeks ago Fatty helped his wife get started in EU. He wanted to share the game he loves with the people he loves. In addition he helped her set up an earnPED account. And then they both got banned.
For no apparent reason their earnings were charged back. Shortly afterward they were unable to access the offers and videos that allowed them to earn. As soon as I heard about this I did everything in my power to help Fatty and his wife.
A Good Reputation Takes You Places
As soon as I heard about the problem I leaped into action. I started calling and e-mailing the people in charge of the earnings system. Knowing Fatty as well as I do I was able to give them a list of examples showing his flawless reputation.
I was able to go to bat for them because I knew they would never intentionally cheat the system. In fact they were extremely grateful to be able to have a system that allowed them to earn PED. I did everything I could to stress Fatty’s honesty, loyalty and integrity to everyone who would listen.
This led to me being able to help Fatty and his wife file an appeal. We knew the reason they received a ban was because the system detected two accounts earning from the same IP address. This is NOT against the TOU for any of the advertisers or sponsors. Each person is allowed 1 account. If there are multiple people in a household each person is allowed 1 account.
As long as there is not more than one account per person it is not a violation. You wouldn’t want to use each others affiliate links; and they didn’t. In addition they each have an in game account. Each account has been verified using government issued ID.
The Result
Fatty has been fighting his ban and charge backs for several weeks now. But he hasn’t been fighting it alone. I’ve been right there with him working to convince everyone that his reputation proceeds him. And I will continue to do so.
We recently received a ban appeal decision telling us there is nothing that can be done to lift the ban. This is unacceptable to me. While I do not have the power to change anything I can keep fighting. And I’m willing to do that because I know Fatty would never violate the TOU. He would never try and take advantage of the advertisers. Not only does he greatly respect what’s been built here he truly appreciates it.
At the end of the day there may be nothing I can do to get Fatty’s ban lifted. But I can promise you I will never stop fighting for him. I’ve even started speaking with other sponsors and advertisers to try and give him alternative earning avenues. The only reason I will go to bat for Fatty is because of his reputation. It’s why I will trade with him, hire him and have his back.
Wrecking Your In Game Reputation
Wrecking your in game reputation ends your career. Players will not trade with you or hire you. You will find yourself ignored or blocked by the people you need to do business with most.
KenoZuki was angry that you can make more from a real job than you can from Entropia Universe. The truth is I know several players who make MORE than a full time income from Entropia. I know for a fact there is a non-depo player who has made over $50,000 in the past 18 months.
But you could never make any real money without a great reputation. You won’t find people willing to partner with you or invest with you. There have been people try and play long term without a good reputation and they NEVER last.
I’ve seen players destroy their in game reputation over Sweat. One player recently tried to sell account bound Strongbox Keys. Butters lost 10 PED to someone selling worthless Blueprints when he first started. At the end of the day lying, cheating and stealing is simply not tolerated within the Entropia community and the players are not stupid.
If you are a liar, thief, cheat or simply greedy and dishonest it will come out sooner or later. People will figure it out and it’s what you will be known for.
What You Can Do About Your Reputation
As in life in game it takes forever to build a good reputation and seconds to destroy it. When you first start playing realize that you do not know the game. Realizing that you are a new player who can learn from long term players will gain you a lot of respect. It will also make you look much less stupid because we tend to know what we’re talking about.
Most importantly treat everyone with the same respect and honesty with which you would like to be treated. Not everything is a scam, not everyone is out to get you. But above all keep your word and do not take advantage of others. There have been times I’ve paid players MORE than they asked for simply because it was the right thing to do.
Take as much pride in your reputation as you do your skills. Make sure your reputation is protected and beyond questioning. Be like Fatty; so honest it’s sickening.
If you are an honest, caring and above board player we would love to have you as a Member. Joining earnPED is FREE so be sure and sign up today! You can watch Videos and complete Offers in order to earn PED but you’ll also meet some great players. But be warned; anyone like KenoZuki TheGreySoldier OneOfMany will not be tolerated in game or on this site. We are here to build each other up; not tear each other down.

CANCELLED INDEFINITELY AS OF JULY 2019
Unfortunately we are having to cancel this event until further notice. If you do not use the tools we provide to earn PED then we will be unable to sponsor great events like this one. We will be talking to members who have never completed an offer one on one this week to see what we can do to help them in game and on site. Hopefully we can resume this event in the future. BIG thanks to Larry and Varrill for letting us have the event on RedPED land. Original post preserved below.
We are proud to announce the RedPED Weekly Sweat Event! This is BIG news for all Entropia Universe players! You’ll be able to sweat some super cool mobs, participate in contests and much more!
RedPED Sweat
Our friends at Red PED Corporation own several land areas on Calypso. They have generously offered to let us hold a weekly sweating event on OLA 2! We are really excited because it’s a great land area with some cool mobs! No boring Ambu’s for our peeps!
On Sunday’s at 1800 UTC game time we will be meeting to sweat and have fun! The entire event will be streamed by our own Sarah SarahWatson Watson! This is a one hour event. Healers will be hired to help keep you from dying excessively. There will also be a special contest that will give a few lucky players a chance to sell sweat!
Taxi Service
Not everyone has the teleporter nearest OLA 2. In order to accommodate all players we will be offering a FREE taxi service from New Oxford to the TP 10 minutes prior to the event. Space is limited so passengers will be taken on a first come, first severed basis.
We will try and be sure that everyone gets a ride that shows up within that 10 minute window. New Oxford is a basic teleporter that everyone should have. If you do not have the New Oxford teleporter talk to the Teleporter Technician at Port Atlantis. She will give you a variety of teleporters. You will then be able to teleport to New Oxford and catch the taxi.
Contest
At random points during the event SarahWatson will ask a total of 5 questions. The first person to answer each question correctly will be able to sell SarahWatson 1k sweat for 2.5 PED!
In order to qualify for this contest you must meet several criteria. We do NOT buy from sweat resellers. You can only be the winner of 1 question per day.
Please note that if you are blacklisted you will not be able to participate. Blacklisted individuals are those people who have been known to try and scam other players. We may also blacklist you for advertising for one of our competitors. Individuals who create an EarnPED member account and then never complete offers will be automatically considered blacklisted.
Additional Giveaways
EarnPED members who are actively completing Offers or watching Videos will qualify for additional goodies! If you are active on EarnPED.com AND an EarnPED.com Society Member we want to reward you for helping us build our community! You must be attending the event and you must be watching SarahWatson’s Stream for a chance at weapon and ammo prizes!
You’ll have to participate in the event for further details but StevieB has some cool gear up for grabs! Armor, Weapons, Account Credits, PED, PEC and much more! Could StevieB be crazy enough to give you a shot at an AUD or CLD? You’ll have to attend the event to find out!

Output Amplifier Components are one of the many hunting resources you will find. There are many different types of components in Entropia Universe. Since this is one of the more useful ones let’s take a look at this unique component. Later on we will see how they can help us earn PED!
Output Amplifier Component Basic Stats
Output Amplifier Components weigh 0.01 Kg. They have a TT value of 40 PEC each. This is a stackable resource which helps with storage management. You should note that this item can be looted in PvP lootable zones. You must loot these from hunting. They are not available from any other method.
Output Amplifier Component
Rarity
Part of the reason Output Amplifier Components are in demand is their rarity. Which mob you loot them from tends to change with Version Updates but it’s a limited list. Most of these mobs are going to be hard to find or higher level.
This is done intentionally to restrict the number of these components. You will soon see why this is important to the in game economy. The one thing you can count on is Mayhem.
Mayhem creatures drop Output Amplifier Components. This is true for each Mayhem event and covers all categories. It doesn’t matter if you compete or not. As long as you are in a Mayhem instance killing mobs you will likely loot this component. The more mobs you kill the more of these components you will loot.
Demand
There is a fair amount of demand for these components. These components are almost exclusively used to craft damage enhancers. In fact the complete list of blueprints that use this component is as follows:
Weapon Damage Enhancer 1 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 2 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 3 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 4 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 5 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 6 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 7 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 8 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 9 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 10 Blueprint
Weapon Accuracy Enhancer 6 Blueprint
As you can see there is only one exception. Other than the Weapon Accuracy Enhancer 6 Blueprint they are used to make Weapon Damage Enhancers. Not very many people have the skills to craft damage enhancers. The players that do have the skills cause the price to fluctuate greatly. When they want to gamble on crafting the price goes up. If they are crafting to make PED the price goes down.
Circle of Life
This is a great example of the circle of life in Entropia. Output Amplifier Components are used to craft Weapon Damage Enhancers. Weapon Damage Enhancers are used to compete in Mayhem. Looting Mayhem creatures is likely to result in obtaining Output Amplifier Components.
This sis one of the clearest cycles in Entropia. Virtually all resources act in this manner. In this case it’s just easier to see.
We Buy Output Amplifier Components
We buy Output Amplifier Components through out Modified Trade Terminal program. There are times when the prices drop. Since we craft for profit this is when we prefer to buy. We do not gamble on crafting and we don’t get in bidding wars.
One thing that hurts many players is the low TT value of this item. While the mark up is generally good, fees hurt. It’s a rare resource to loot. Players who only have a few can’t justify using the auction system. The fees that are charged when using auction offers or orders easily offset the mark up on small stacks.
Due to this a lot of players will either save them for years or sell privately. Each player has different goals. You have to decide what works best for you.
Pro Tip
Crafting enhancers is very difficult. Few people have the crafting skills needed to pull it off. Attempting to craft damage enhancers without the proper skills will cost you a ton of PED. You will have a lot of failed attempts. This is costly because you will lose both the TT value and the mark up.
If you are wanting to earn PED selling Output Amplifier Components may be one way to do it. You’ll also want to be sure you take advantage of our Offers and Videos. Becoming an EarnPED member is FREE so Register today!

I regularly buy Neurostim, Modified. This is an item many players are not familiar with. Let’s take a quick look at this pill and see what it’s all about. There’s not a lot of information available so I want to shed some light on my favorite in game pill.
The Little Red Pill
Neurostim, Modified is a little red pill in Entropia Universe. You can not buy it from vendors and it is not lootable from mobs. The only way to obtain this item is through Strongboxes. It has been reported to drop from Classified Strongboxes. There have also been reports of it dropping from Summer Mayhem, Halloween Mayhem, Merry Mayhem and Easter Mayhem Strongboxes.
Neurostim Modified
As of this time it is believed to drop from only these five Strongbox types. The drop rate is currently unknown. But it is not the most frequently dropped pill.
Neurostim, Modified Basic Stats
This item has a TT value of 5 PED. It can be looted in PvP lootable areas so it is not advised to take it into space or other PvP lootable locations. This item is stackable. Since it is a Pill you have to consume it. When you do the buffs it provides will effect your avatar for a limited time.
Effects When Consumed:
When consumed you will experience buffs for one hour. You will see an increase in run speed by 35%. Reload speed will increase by 20% and your regeneration by 70%. In addition you will have 20 additional HP.
You will increase the Critical Damage you do by 20%. There will also be a 4% increased chance of delivering a Critical Hit. Overall these are some very impressive stats! Now let’s take a look at when this is actually useful.
Using Neurostim, Modified In Competitions
The only time I use Mod Neuro is during competitions. It doesn’t make sense to use it otherwise. This pill is designed to help you hunt faster than normal. The increased reload speed, critical damage, larger critical chance, even the run speed and health.
All of this is designed to help you kill mobs faster. The problem is that the effects only last an hour. During a competition like Mayhem this can be beneficial. I don’t always use them for my Mayhem runs but have before.
This kind of increased power could also be helpful during player sponsored hunting events. If you have a 1 hour event, largest loot wins, maybe it’s a good idea. Outside of competition it’s simply not worth it.
Why Slower Is Better
Outside of competition hunting this pill can actually hurt you. It’s now a known fact that increased Critical Damage and Critical Chance can lower your returns. This is because your loot returns are directly tied to cost to kill. When you have a larger critical chance or do more critical damage you lower cost to kill. You may be killing mobs faster but your loot returns will definitely suffer.
You can hunt for as long as you want outside of competition. Increased speed can be nice but isn’t needed. There are also cheaper ways to do it. Instead of spending PED on a pill that lasts an hour look at better investments.
The Ares Ring, Improved provides increased reload, critical chance and critical damage. If you really want to hunt faster this is by far the better investment. That’s one reason we offer it for sale through our Inside The Vault program. We even have it in our Ninja Rental Program inventory for players who need it short term.
Conclusions
While there may be competitions that justify the cost this isn’t for everyone. Most players will want to avoid using Mod Neuro do to the cost, short duration of action and lower loot returns. There are also better alternatives available. The Ares Ring, Improved is a much better option. We also offer it for sale through our Inside The Vault Program and for rent through our Ninja Rentals Program.
You may be able to earn some extra PED as we buy Neurostim, Modified for use in competitions. You can also earn PED through our Offers and Videos. Becoming an EarnPED member is FREE so Register today!

Pyrite Stones and Ingots are one of the Mining Resources you will find in Entropia Universe. Let’s take a quick look at this resource and how it can help you earn PED!
Pyrite
In Entropia Universe Pyrite is a mined resource. You can only find it through mining. It’s considered an Ore which is one of the three primary mining resource types. When you find a Pyrite claim you will have to use an Excavator to extract Pyrite Stones from the ground.
Pyrite Stone
Once you have extracted the Stones you can then use a refiner to turn them into Ingots. The Stones weigh 0.1 Kg each and have a TT value of 20 PEC each. You will need to refine 3 stones in order to make one Ingot. Each Ingot has a TT value of 0.60 PED which is simply the value of the three stones used to create it. Both the Stones and Ingots are stackable.
Pyrite Ingot
Rarity of Pyrite
Pyrite is one of the slightly rarer mining resources you will run across. This is due to two primary reasons. The first is that there simply aren’t many places you will be able to find it. Second, it is most usually found in Lootable PvP areas.
Due to primarily being mined in PvP Lootable areas it can be difficult to mine. It’s one of the few resources you do not want to find in large quantities. If you are unlucky and hit a Global or even worse, a HOF or All Time High, everyone will know. You would very quickly be over run with players wanting to kill you and take your loot. A bad day no matter how you stack it.
This means if you are looking for Pyrite in PvP Lootable areas get in and get out. As quickly as you can, preferably with a Teleportation Mindforce Chip. Note that you can also find it in PvP non-lootable which is the safer way to mine this resource. You simply take the chance of finding it less often.
Demand For Pyrite
There is pretty good demand for Pyrite. The reason being is that it is not only rare but useful. While the unrefined Stones can only be traded or sold the Ingots are a different matter. Ingots are used in various construction processes. Some of the blueprints which use the Ingots create popular crafted items.
Blueprints Where This Resource Is Used
Weapon Damage Enhancer 1 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 2 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 3 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 4 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 5 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 6 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 7 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 8 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 9 Blueprint
Weapon Damage Enhancer 10 Blueprint
Weapon Accuracy Enhancer 6 Blueprint
Camo Sexy Top (C) Blueprint
Lucky Laser Sight Mk II Blueprint
Lux Assassin Case Blueprint (L)
Proud 2 PK Trucker Cap (C) Blueprint
Skully Sexy Top (F,C) Blueprint
Vincent DPS P43 (L) Blueprint
As you can see the damage enhancers drive the demand for Pyrite. You have to have it for every construction attempt. This is where the majority of the Ingots are consumed. Not just anyone can craft damage enhancers properly. Trying to craft with this resource without the proper skills can be very costly.
Mark Up
Because there is rarity and demand there is mark up. This can be good news for those players lucky enough to find it. The bad news is that the mark up fluctuates. I have seen prices get high when people REALLY want it for crafting. Then again I have seen prices plummet when people want to make money crafting.
The best advice I can give you is to do your research. Since we actively craft damage enhancers we are usually looking to buy Pyrite Ingots. But we don’t get into bidding wars. A lot of crafters are simply gamblers. They couldn’t care less about profit or loss. That’s exactly why they never last as long term players.
Before you sell to anyone, including us, be sure it’s in your best interest. You will want to look at what other players are willing to pay, current auction offers, orders and much more. Always be sure to calculate the cost of completing a transaction. We will often times pay less than the market rate but we are willing to buy any quantity large or small.
Other Considerations
You will want to have good knowledge of the game and Mining before you look for Pyrite. If you have the skills to use it for crafting that’s great. But if your crafting skills are lacking it may be better to sell to other players. Since the price fluctuates be sure that you are getting a deal that helps you meet your goals. Always remember to factor in the costs of completing a transaction.
This is one of those mining resources that can be great for trading. When in doubt we are always here to help if we can!

Mining is one of the three main professions in Entropia Universe. Some people make it a full time profession. For others it’s something that they only do on occasion. Naturally it’s something players of all levels will want to learn about. It can also be extremely complicated. Let’s take a look at the basics now and we can build on this information later.
What Is Mining In Entropia Universe
First let’s figure out exactly what we mean when we talk about Mining. In Entropia this is the activity of actively finding Ores, EnMatters and Treasure below ground. Followed by extracting those resources. This is different from finding items above ground.
While you are Hunting, mining or exploring you will occasionally find stones and fruit. These appear randomly as you walk or run. These finds are nice but are not included in the definition of mining.
In order to Mine you will need a Mining Finder, a Resource Extractor and Survey Probes. Finders drop probes attempting to find a mining claim. If you do find one you will then use the resource extractor in order to bring the resources to the surface. Once the resources are extracted they become loot. Let’s look at each in more detail.
Survey Probes
Survey Probes are the easiest part of mining. You have to have them before you can start. They can be purchased directly from the Trade Terminal for 0.05 PEC each. There is no mark up and you will never need to purchase them from other players. Simply buy from the TT and if you have some left over you can sell them back to the TT.
How many you purchase will depend on several factors. Number of probes your finder uses per attempt. How many attempts you intend to do during you run. Other factors may also need to be considered. When you are mining you are more likely to be in remote areas. Be absolutely sure you take plenty of probes so you don’t have to go back for more.
Mining Finder
The Mining Finder you decide to use will be a big decision. There are many different Finders in game. They are much more complicated than they first appear. Certain Finders are better suited for certain mining runs. This is an area you will want to become an expert in. We will look at this in depth in future articles. For now let’s look at the basics of a Mining Finder.
F101 Mining Finder Stats
Each mining finder will have an Average Search Depth, Range and Uses Per Minute.
Average Search Depth
Each Finder will list an Average Search Depth. Different resources are found at different depths. Some Finders are capable of going far deeper than others. But what does “average” search depth mean?
In this case average means Plus or Minus 200. If a Finder has an Average Search Depth of 104.5 what this really means is it can find resources at depths between 0 and 304.5. When you start dealing with more advanced finders this becomes important. Experienced, profitable Miners know exactly what depth range the resource they want is in. They also know exactly what depth the Finder they want to use is best suited for.
For now a basic understanding of this feature will suffice. We can go into more detail on this subject in later articles.
Range
Each Mining Finder will also have a Range. This is EXTREMELY important. When you use a Finder and drop probes looking for a claim this is the area you are searching. If you have a finder with a range of 54 meters that is a 54 meter radius.
When you drop probes imagine you are standing in the center of a big circle. The Range of the Finder goes from you to the edges of a big circle around you. This is the area that the Finder is attempting to find resources in.
If you have a Finder with a 54 meter range you would want to move 108 meters before your next drop. This would insure that your search areas do not overlap. Overlapping search areas are a waste of resources and PED.
Another VERY important thing to remember is this is an outdoor mining range. If you are mining indoors at a location such as F.O.M.A. the range is 1/2 normal range. This is again important when calculating the distance between drops.
Uses Per Minute
Each finder has a number of uses per minute. If you are the type that likes to play casually maybe this isn’t a big deal. But if you are a hard core Miner this can be important. Some of the best Miners literally run while dropping probes. By having a Finder with high uses per minute you can make more drops. More drops should mean more claims. And more claims should mean more loot!
Ores, EnMatters and Treasure
When you look at a Mining Finder you will see three sections: Ores, EnMatters and Treasure. These are the three resource types you can find while mining. This is why each is listed in the Finders info page.
Ores are generally stone or stone like. When put into a Refiner they usually generate Metal Ingots. The Prospector Profession is the profession related to finding Ores. Generally you will need twice as many probes to look for Ores as you would EnMatters. For most Finders you will need 20 probes per attempt when looking for Ores. There are many exceptions we will explore later.
EnMatters are the only other real Mining resource you will encounter. At least early on. These are typically resources that are more energy related or non stone or metal type resources. Examples would be Crude Oil or Force Nexus. These resources will likely also need to be refined with a Refiner. It typically cost 10 probes to look for EnMatters which is usually half the probes needed when looking for Ores. The Surveyor Profession is used when searching for EnMatters.
Treasure is a more unique Mining Resource. You can only Mine for Treasure on Arkadia. It is also the most expensive of the three. You will usually need the same amount of probes just for Treasure mining as for Ores and EnMatters combined. On most Finders this is 30 probes. The Treasure Hunter Profession is used when searching for Treasure.
Going Mining
Once you have a Mining Finder and Survey Probes you can get started! You will chose the location you want to search and which resources you want to find. If you are unlucky you waste probes and find nothing. But if you get lucky you will get a Resource Deed!
Mining Survey
When you find a Resource Claim you will loot a Resource Deed. You can open your inventory by hitting I and you will see it under the Money and Deeds tab. You can interact with the deed to find out the details of the claim.
The claim will also be marked in game with a Claim Marker which will hover over the resource claim. Now all you have to do is equip your extractor, point to the Claim Marker and use it to extract the resource!
Extracting A Mining Claim
Mining Extractor
The Mining Excavator is needed in order to mine. Otherwise you have no way to get resources out of the ground. Excavators have an efficiency rating which we will dive into at a later date. They also have a Uses Per Minute.
Earth Excavator ME/01 Stats
Generally you want an Excavator with a high amount of uses per minute. There are other factors you will need to look at but this one is very important. You want to be able to get your claim out of the ground quickly.
This is so you can get more drops per hour. You also want to be sure you don’t get killed by mobs while gathering your resources. If you are mining in PvP lootable areas this is even more important. We will look at Mining Extractors in more detail in the future.
Refiners
While not required you will likely also want a Refiner. A Refiner allows you to take the Ores and EnMatters you loot and turn them into a refined resource. Typically people want to buy the refined version. You will also need refined Ores and EnMatters for most Crafting in game.
Refiner MR100 TT
You could chose to not use a refiner. It may save you a little money but it would likely make your loot harder to sell. We will look at this in future articles as well.
Other Mining Details
There is much more to Mining we will look at soon. Amping, enhancers and much more. It requires far more game knowledge than Hunting but mining can be extremely profitable. You will likely want to learn much more before getting started.

If you are just starting to play Entropia Universe I highly advise you to stay away from Crafting. In this guide I want to take a broad look at Crafting. We can learn the basics and we can build on them later. Crafting can quickly break your bank account. Please proceed with extreme caution before trying your hand at it. Let’s see what we can learn about the subject.
What Is Crafting
Crafting is the process of combining in game materials to produce another item. This is a concept which you are likely familiar with. You take the loot you get from Hunting and ores from mining. These items are combined to create something new. But this very simple idea is extremely complicated.
Make no mistake this is one part of the game that can cost you a fortune. You will need a large bankroll. In depth knowledge of the game is a must. You have to know item uses, the market and demand. Find a way to take all of the “luck” out of it or crafting can end your entire career.
Let’s look at what you will need to get started:
Crafting Skills
Before you get started you will want to be sure you already have the skills you need. You could chose to simply start crafting and gain skills naturally. This would mean many failed crafting attempts. Each failed attempt would cost you PED. This would be so extremely costly I can not even estimate it. The number would likely be in the tens of thousands of dollars. It would also be very boring.
Crafting Professions
Alternatively you could purchase the Skill Implants you need at auction. This is slightly less expensive and would likely just cost several thousand dollars. You would need multiple implants. Each skill implant would have a huge mark up since the skills are hard to acquire.
The best way to get the skills you need will be by repairing a Mothership. We will get more into this in a later article but the concept is simple. There are about a dozen Motherships in Entropia. Several of them will allow you to be part of the repair crew. You won’t get paid but you will be able to repair the ship to gain skills you need for crafting. Most ships that offer this service do regular or daily repair runs.
This is the cheapest most cost effective way to get crafting skills. You will need to provide your own RK-5 Repair tools and Welding Wire. Most ship owners sell both for slightly above normal mark up.
Blueprints
The next thing you will need for crafting is a Blueprint. Each Blueprint requires different materials and makes a specific product. There are Limited Blueprints which are good for a set number of attempts. With an Unlimited Blueprint you can try as many attempts as you like. They never wear out.
You will want to use a Blueprint that you have the proper skills to use at its maximum success rate. If you use an Unlimited Blueprint you will want to be sure that it has a high QR or quality rating.
All UL BP’s start with a QR 1 and the highest QR is 100. The more the BP is used the higher the QR will become. Success rate is tied directly to BP QR. A QR 100 BP, and more than enough skills to use it, will give you the most successes possible. I do not recommend using a UL BP with a QR rating under 100. And I NEVER suggest using a BP you don’t have the skills to handle.
Materials
Once you have the skills and proper blueprint you will need materials. Each BP requires certain materials in certain quantities. This is a per attempt set up. The Simple 1 Conductors BP uses 2 Animal Eye Oil and 20 Animal Muscle Oil per attempt. If you want to do 100 attempts you would need to multiply those numbers by 100.
The materials you will need will be loot from Hunting and Mining. Usually BP’s use some mixture of hunting loot and mining loot. This helps to create demand and stimulate the in game economy. You may decide to collect these items yourself or purchase them from another player. Once you have gathered the materials you need it’s time to get started!
Construction Terminal
Crafting Your First Creation
With everything you need in hand you’re ready to go! You can find your favorite Construction Terminal and get started! You walk up to and interact with the construction terminal. The interactive menu will pop up presenting you with all of the BP’s that you have available.
Crafting Browse Interface
You will want to select the one you wish to use. Now you will want to chose the proper settings for your crafting run. As I mentioned this is more complicated than you would think.
Quantity Vs Quality
One of the first things you will want to decide is quality or quantity. The slider bar can be set to either extreme or somewhere in between. Quantity will give you the most Successful crafting attempts. Quality will give you very few successes and a lot of failures. But full quality is how you get earth shattering high loots. All Time Highs in crafting are almost always from runs done on full Quality.
Crafting Construct Interface
Knowing this we can guess which is more likely to break the bank. While there are exceptions you will almost always want to craft your run with the bar all the way to Quantity. Disregard this advice if you are a billionaire (but feel free to contact us about sponsorship!).
Residue
With the bar set all the way to Quantity we need to decide if residue is needed. If you are creating a stackable item there is no need to use residue. If you are making a Limited item you intend to resell, such as a tool or weapon, you will want to use residue.
You will have to have residue available as if it were a material the BP required. During your construction run you will have partial successes. This means you will have created an item but it will have been made below full TT value. If you have selected to use residue when this happens residue will be consumed. The item will now come out at full TT value. Electing not to use residue will mean you get whatever TT value the machine spits out.
This is important for two reasons. The first is that people typically do not like buying partial TT items. Second is that your profit will likely be derived from Mark Up. As with hunting and mining your construction run will not produce TT positive results. You will have to sell the end products for a chance at profiting. The more TT value an item has the more profit you receive from mark up.
Number of Crafting Attempts
You can chose a single crafting attempt. In this case you have to hit the construct button every time you want the machine to work. Or you can set a pre-determined number of attempts. Since you should be doing large crafting runs this is preferred. Simply set your number of attempts, hit construct and sit back and watch the results.
Other Settings
There are other settings you can use. Included is the option to automatically sell items. This is generally not a good idea. You will want to see your entire runs results before making decisions. Since this is an introduction guide we will save these features for later analysis.
At this point you are finally ready to try your luck! So why are the success rates wrong?
Success Rate
With correct skills and QR 100 BP you may think you will have a 95% success rate. After all that’s what it seems to indicate. Truth is that’s not how it works. Success rate includes successes and partial successes.
It’s also believed that this indicated 95% is 95% of some other unknown percentage. There is a lot of theory and research about this. We will save such discussions for a future date.
What You Can Do
Now you can see crafting is complicated business. My advice to any new player is simply do not do it. Get to know the game. Learn the market and the way the game works in depth. Only after extensive preparation should you even consider crafting. Failing to listen to this warning could break you financially.
In future articles we will look at crafting in more detail. For now learn all you can about Entropia Universe. Study the markets and do some Trading. Do repair runs and gain some crafting skills. Have fun and save up some PED.
Also be sure and check out the Offers and Videos available to our EarnPED members. This can help you earn PED you will need for crafting later on. Becoming a member is FREE so be sure and Join Us today!

Empty Skill Implants or ESI’s are an important part of Entropia Universe. Most people do not fully understand how they work. Let’s take a look at this comprehensive guide to better understand them. When we are done you will know more about skills than most players. Let’s get started and see what we can learn!
What Is An Empty Skill Implant
An Empty Skill Implant is exactly what the name implies. It is an implant created to hold skills. This is what allows people to put skills into, or take them out of, their avatar. One fact that we need to clarify is that this term is actually not 100% accurate.
Empty Skill Implant Item Info
The more proper term, which I will use, is Skill Implant. It may be empty in which case skills can be loaded onto it. This is where the in game term comes from. But it may already have skills loaded onto it. In this case it is not empty at all.
When a Skill Implant already has a skill loaded it takes the skills name. If you look at the in game auction you will see this. There are Rifle Skill Implants. Evade skill implants, Aim Skill Implants and many more. Each Skill Implant starts out as an Empty Skill Implant. Once loaded with a skill it is no longer empty so it takes on the name of the skill it has been loaded with. I will try and be as accurate as possible in this respect.
Marksmanship Skill Implant
Item Basics
Skill Implants are Limited items. They do not function exactly like other Limited items. But having this designation is very important. You can not place an Auction Order for Limited items. This means you will never see an Order for ESI’s. Given the extremely high markup Empty Skill Implants have this does effect the prices and market cycles.
Skill Implants have a weight of 1kg. They can only be found through looting a creature while hunting. Empty Skill Implants are very rare, valuable and highly sought after!
They have a Maximum TT value of 1,250 PED. When hunting you can loot an Empty Skill Implant with a TT value of anywhere from 10 PED to 1,250 PED. They typically do not have a minimum trade terminal value. The smallest Empty Skill Implant would be 10 PED TT value. That is also the condition limit of 0.8% for an Empty Skill Implant.
Empty Skill Implant TT
Theoretically a filled implant could have a TT value as low as 0.01 PEC. This would be extremely uncommon. It wouldn’t make any sense to create one so small but it could be done.
Using An Empty Skill Implant
First let’s look at how we can use an ESI. Then we can look at the process in more detail. The first thing you will need is an ESI. It can be one you looted or one you purchased. You will also need the Payn-Inc Implant Inserter which can be purchased from the Trade Terminal. The price of the inserter is 15 PED. You can keep it or sell it back to the TT for slightly less when you’re done.
Payn-Inc Implant Inserter
Once you have both of these items you can get started. You will drag and drop the Empty Skill Implant onto the Inserter. Then you equip the Inserter. Next you use the interact or use function to use the Inserter. Once you do this the skills window will pop up.
You will see a warning message warning you’re about to remove skills from your avatar. Next you select the skill you wish to remove from your avatar. This is the skill that will be loaded onto the Empty Skill Implant. Finally there will be a mini window where you can select how many points you wish to remove from your avatar. This window will only allow you to select enough points to completely fill the Empty Skill Implant. You can not over-fill it even if you have the available skill points.
Extract Skill Window
The Skill Implant can only hold a certain amount of points so that is the limit. You can decide to use less skill points. This would result in the implant only being partially filled. Now you hit the button to proceed and watch the process unfold! Your avatar will struggle and groan. Success, you will be presented with a filled Skill Implant!
ESI Very Important Information
Things are a little more complicated than they appear. When filling and Empty Skill Implant you ALWAYS want to make sure one of two things happen. Either fill it completely with the absolute maximum amount of skills you can. Or you MUST make sure that you leave a 10 PED TT value left over.
Remember that it is possibly to only partially fill a Skill Implant. When you do this you are given a Filled Skill Implant and a smaller Empty Skill Implant as long as the remaining value is more than 10 PED TT. If the value dips below 10 PED TT you receive that value in PED.
ESI’s have about a 900% Mark Up at the time of this writing. That means the smallest ESI you can get (10 PED TT) is worth 90 PED. If you screw up and split an ESI and the remaining value is less than 10 PED TT you lose all of that Mark Up. You definitely do not want to fall below that 0.8% item condition limit.
How To Determine Skill Value
If you read my recent article on Skills you know this a bit complicated. Each point is worth more than the point before it. And worth less than the point after it. This makes it very difficult for some people to figure out how to use and ESI. Good news is there’s a little help!
A long time player Jdegre created the Online Entropia Skill Calculator. This guy is a true math whiz. I’ve seen some of his more in depth work. I love math but even I was seriously impressed. And the online calculator works REALLY well and is pretty freakishly accurate. You may have to play with it a little but it’s a great tool for helping to determine skill values.
Once you play with it you will start to memorize certain values. The first 1900 skill points you earn for any skill is about 10 PED TT. Just enough to fully fill the smallest ESI. A player who has 10,000 skill points and earns 7 more will have the same 10 PED TT in those 7 points. This is why more experienced players are more likely to chip out. Going from 10,007 points to 10,000 is also 10 PED TT. It just doesn’t impact your game play as drastically.
This is why in normal circumstances you will want to chip out later in the game. It’s also why you seem to get the most use from chipping in early on. But we’ll get more into that in a moment.
Chipping Out Empty Skill Implant Examples
Let’s look at a few examples to help us better understand filling an ESI with skills.
Example 1 Complete Fill
You’ve purchased a 21 PED TT Empty Skill Implant from auction. The TT has provided you a Payn-Inc Implant Inserter for a cost of 15 PED. You want to completely fill the ESI. First you drag the ESI onto the Inserter. Next you equip the Inserter. Now you hit use or interact.
The warning pops up along with the skill window. You want to take Anatomy Skills out of your avatar and fill them on the Empty Skill Implant. From using the online skill calculator you know that 21 PED TT is the first 2,589 Skill Points for any skill.
Since you’re a newer player this saves you having to do math backwards because you happen to have 2,642 Anatomy Skill points. You simply move the skill value window to 2,589 via the arrows in the window. Finally you hit proceed and watch your avatar struggle. A loot window pops up and you now have an 18.9 PED TT Anatomy Skill Implant!
Example 2 Partial Fill
You again have a 21 PED TT Empty Skill Implant and the Inserter. This time you only want to partially fill the Empty Skill Implant. This means that you want to receive back a smaller Empty Skill Implant with a value of AT LEAST 10 PED TT. You will also receive a filled Skill Implant. Being aware that you want to stay above 10 PED TT so you get an item with 900% MU instead of PED you are extra cautious.
You currently have 3,561 points of Evade Skill which is what you want to remove. Playing with the online calculator you find that if you remove 8 PED TT it will leave you with exactly 3,390 points of Evade Skill. In this case the numbers are dead on. You can remove exactly 171 points of Evade Skill and create an 8 PED TT filled Skill Implant.
First you drag the Empty Skill Implant onto the Inserter. Next you equip the Inserter and hit use or interact. The warning window and the Skills window pop up next. Now you select Evade Skill and continue. When the window pops up allowing you to select the number of points to remove you select exactly 171 points. Finally you proceed and watch your avatar struggle.
The result is success! You see a loot window and you now have a 7.2 PED TT Evade Skill Implant and also receive a 13 PED Empty Skill Implant! Aren’t you smart making sure you got back a 10+ PED TT ESI with 900% Mark Up! Some people would have over filled the Empty Skill Implant and got back 9.99 PED or less. Losing 900% MU not knowing what you are doing is devastating.
WAIT The Numbers Are Wrong
No they aren’t. When you take skills out of your avatar and put them onto an Empty Skill Implant you lose 10% of the value. This is common knowledge. The pop up window even warns you of that. But not many people understand where this loss occurs.
Notice in example 2 we wanted to create an 8 PED TT Evade Skill Implant. Given the number of skill points we had that meant 8 PED was exactly 171 points. Also notice that we took out exactly 171 points. But the chip we ended up with was a 7.2 PED Evade Skill Implant.
In those moments of watching the avatar struggle we lost 10% of the value. This means that between leaving the avatar and entering the Implant 10% of the skills vanished. This resulted in the Implant being worth 10% less. Also notice that this did NOT effect the size of the smaller Empty Skill Implant we received.
When you chip out you are losing 10% of the skill points you remove. This is easily seen as the final Skill Implant size will be 10% smaller than your initial calculations. You are also giving up the MU on that 10% of skills which are lost.
POINT of Reference
When you chip out it is the highest point which is taken first. The system works backwards. You are giving up your most valuable skill point. Then your second most valuable. Followed by your third most valuable. This is why you MUST use the online calculator to be sure your numbers are dead on.
To calculate the numbers for our second example I did the following: First I made up the number of skill points we would start with 3,561. I opened the online calculator and selected the Calculator tab. Under Initial Skill Level I selected 3,000. In the area designated Skill Implant Size I selected 8 PED. Then I hit go. It did not get me to 3,561.
I kept raising the Initial Skill Level number until the result was 3,561. I could then see that if you started with 3,390 skill points and add an 8 PED implant you end up with 3,561 skill points. Finally I subtracted 3,561 – 3,390 = 171. If you have 3,561 skill points and remove 171 of them that is exactly 8 PED TT and leaves you with 3,390 skill points.
I’m not sure if this is the best way to use this calculator. But this is how it’s worked for me. I have used it MANY times when chipping out and it has always been dead on. How accurate is it? I was able to do a partial fill and receive a 10.05 PED TT Empty Skill Implant. It’s that accurate. If I had been off by a single point I would have missed out on 900% MU.
Chipping In With Skill Implants
Chipping in is much easier than chipping out. When you chip in you do not lose 10% of the Skill Implants value. Simply select the Skill Implant you want to use. Drag and drop onto the Inserter. Equip the Inserter and use or interact. Watch your avatar struggle as your skills grow!
When you chip in you get larger point gains early on. Later in the game the same Skill Implant will give you less skill points. This is because skills are valued in PED TT value and not points. The problem is chipping in early on can be a big mistake.
When you chip in you make progress quickly. But you give up the ability to skill naturally. This is a big oversight. When you skill naturally everything should rise in sync. Natural skilling awards several different skills instead of just one skill.
In addition to keeping everything in sync you will also see your attributes grow. Attributes are similar to skills. The major difference is you gain attributes at a MUCH slower rate. You also can not implant or remove attributes. Attributes become incredibly important later in the game. If you chip in early on you may be giving up an opportunity to naturally skill some attributes you will need later.
The More You Know
You now know more about Empty Skill Implants than most players. This information will be very valuable as you play Entropia. Be sure and double check your calculations before chipping out. Also take time to really consider if you should chip in. Often times it’s better to skill naturally.

Skills are an important part of Entropia Universe. Many of you know I spent 6 months skilling nothing but defense before my rise to Entropia greatness. In that time I got to know a lot about skills. How they work, why they work and most of all the variety of ways you can use them. Let’s take some time to learn about skills in general and then we can build on that and look at individual skills.
The Obvious
There are a variety of skills in Entropia. Each has it’s own category with it’s own quantity count inside the skill menu. When you first start you have a single point in each category. That mean’s that you have no skills at all.
Skills
As you are active in the game you will be awarded various skill points in differing amounts. What skill you get largely depends on the action that you are preforming. You have to actively be doing something in order to gain skills. Simply logging in and running around is not enough. The only way to gain skills is by somehow interacting with the game. It may be something as simple as letting a large level creature kill you repeatedly. If you’ve read my guide on Farming Free Defense Skills At Zychion Citadel you know this is a great way to get skills for free.
Most of the time you will only get skills when you are doing something that cost money. It may be while hunting, crafting or mining. Alternatively it could be while piloting a space ship and taking damage. When the game registers money’s being spent you are far more likely to get rewarded with skills. That money being spent can be in the form of decay in small amounts. Or it could be losing thousands of PED crafting something unsuccessfully which is a very expensive way to try and skill.
Skills Have Value
A large part of the reason skill gains are often tied to money spent is because skills have value. A rather unique aspect of Entropia is that the game allows you to put skills into and take skills out of your avatar via implants. These skill implants can be bought and sold on auction or traded between players.
This is also why gaining skills is a logarithmic function. Each skill point is worth more than the one before it and less than the one after it. If you have 328 points of Evade then the 328th point is worth more than the 327th point. That also means that the 299th point is worth less than the 300th point.
By having this system in place you will likely gain skills quickly in the beginning. The further you progress in the game the harder it will be to get skills. You will find that at some point your gains grind to a snails pace.
Fractional Points
If you watch your screen you will see that you do not always get a full point awarded. It’s not uncommon for the system to award you fractional points. This goes back to the fact that each point is worth more than the point before and less than the point after.
By having a fractional award system in place the system can more properly award skills based on PED spent. You will only see whole numbers but the system knows down to a tiny fraction exactly how many points you have.
Skill Points
The further you go in the game you will notice that not only are skill points awarded less often; they are also awarded in ever smaller amounts. I have seen the system award points to a player and the message says the system has awarded you 0.0000 Evade points. What really happened was the player was awarded evade skills but the amount was so small it didn’t register with only 4 decimal points. It did however register inside the system. Whatever amount was awarded was added to that players total number of points for that skill.
Professions
New players will often confuse skill points with Professions. When people talk about your Level in Entropia they are referring to your Profession level. Not the number of skill points you have. Profession levels are determined by what combination of different individual skills you possess. To give you an easy to understand example let’s look at Evade.
Professions
Each player has the skill evade. This is a defense skill. You can get awarded evade points from hunting or from taking damage from a mob. But Evader is also a Profession. The Evader Profession is calculated by looking at several different skill points. Specifically your Evader Profession made up 25% by your evade skill. Then 14% by Athletics, 11% by Combat Reflexes, 10% courage, 5% Alertness, 5% Serendipity and 6% Avoidance. By looking at this one example we can see that it takes several individual skills to determine your Profession level.
Hidden Skills
Some skills are hidden. This means that you must unlock them in order to start earning them. Nothing beats working hard for something only to have to work harder for something else!
In order to unlock hidden skills you will need to reach certain profession levels. A hidden skill will have a specific profession or a set of professions which upon reaching a certain level will automatically unlock. Once a hidden skill is unlocked you can start earning points for that skill.
If for some reason your profession level was to drop back below the level needed to unlock the hidden skill then that skill would become hidden again. This is only achievable if you unlock a skill and then remove skills from your avatar using an Empty Skill Implant.
If you were to go back below the level needed to unlock a hidden skill you DO NOT lose the points you have accumulated for that skill. They simply become hidden again. When you reach the needed profession level to unlock it again it will unlock again. I know this for a fact because I have done it myself. You will still be able to see how many of the hidden skills points you have. But you will not be able to be awarded any more. You also will not be able to use the hidden skill until you unlock it again.
Why Skills Matter
The more skills you have the better you are at in game activities. The fewer points you have the worse you are. Skills are used to calculate professions and professions are used to determine what you can do. They also determine how well you can do it.
Skills can be the difference between using a weapon to its full capacity. Or being so bad with it you’re just wasting ammo. Having the right skills can mean successful crafting runs that fill your PEDCard with profit. Without them it could mean a wall of failed crafting attempts that will end your career.
In a very real way the more skills you have the more PED you will earn. You also have to have knowledge of the game. You’ll need to know the market, item values, usefulness and a lot more. But none of that does you any good without the right skills. You can be the smartest player in Entropia. Maybe you know the game inside and out better than anyone else. If you don’t have skills it means nothing. The amount of money you make or lose can be directly determined simply by your skills.
More To Come
